Applications invited for accreditation for certifying to the new ISO 22000 Standard, Food Safety Management Systems

A new standard, ISO 22000 - Food Safety Management Systems has been developed. The F-DIS version is expected to be published in March 2005, pending final circulation for comment before publication of the completed standard in January 2006. It is anticipated that, for certification bodies seeking to be accredited for certifying to ISO 22000, ISO Guide 62: General requirements for bodies operating assessment and certification /registration of quality systems, will be the relevant standard .

Expressions of interest/applications are now invited from certification bodies wishing to provide accredited certification for ISO 22000.

If there is a demand for this, UKAS will run a pilot assessment programme for applicants, aiming to complete by the time the final standard is published in January 2006. To be considered for inclusion in the UKAS pilot assessment we will need to receive applications and accompanying documentation by April 30th 2005.  The pilot programme may include desk-top reviews, Head office assessments, witnessed assessments and/or other assessment techniques as determined through contract review.

Details of the anticipated pilot assessment programme will be provided to organisations who have expressed an interest by 31 March 2005 or who have applied before 30 April 2005.

Expressions of interest/applications may be forwarded to:
