Dear Simon and Forum,
Howdy? Ive just back from my long Holiday:)

Its so amazing how numbers and graphs can give you a lot of information... I think its very good Simon, and I am curious to find what kind of numbers and graphs that shown on the next update:)

The most interesting part for me is the Map Overlay. UK and USA seems "untouchable" for the most visitors ever came. The percentage of new visitors from Germany took the most part, I think they might leap the Asians visitors and compete with Australians if they keep the same pace on the next days, since the new visitors is quite rare from Asian region. But even the new visitors from Asia is not so many, its proved that they were loyal and inquisitive visitors. You may check the average page per visit and the average time on site, it much longer than the Europe and Americans.

The other interesting section is Top Traffic Sources. It seems that the visitor found this marvelous site from the Search Engine (including me). And the tickles one is... OPRP is the second word that lookin by everbody. The OPRP matter sure does amusing most of the food practise:)

I am very much waiting for the next stats... BTW Simon, I didnt get well with the "Bounce Rate", what does it means?

Thanks for your review of the stats I posted. Yes USA and UK have the most visitors, although the Asian contingent is growing fast and also make up a healthy proporion of active members. I think inquisitve is a good term, or maybe they are more hungry to learn.

The term bounce sounds like fun but in fact it's not good news. Here's what gogle says:

Bounce Rate is the percentage of single-page visits (i.e. visits in which the person left your site from the entrance page). Bounce Rate is a measure of visit quality and a high Bounce Rate generally indicates that site entrance (landing) pages are not relevant to your visitors. You can minimise Bounce Rates by tailoring landing pages to each keyword and ad that you run. Landing pages should provide the information and services that were promised in the ad copy.

A bounce rate of around 60% is not great but it's quite usual as most surfers search, grab the information they want or perhaps don't find exactly what they are looking for and either way they promptly disappear.

Dear Simon,

Humm, it looks like the pole position doesnt change significantly this month. Even the new visitor's percentage seems getting decreased since last month... Need more promotion perhaps? The visitors from Malaysia is reaching the 5th position, and force the Australian down to 6th. Way to go Malaysia!!!:) And the Asian visitor still dominating the region base, Asian rules!!!:) I hope Indonesia will reach the Top Ten countries someday, even just for a month, thats okay:)

Bouncing rate is still high, I hope it will decreased on next month...

Metal detection is a new trend of searching. I wonder why melamine issue not shown on the top keywords search... The industries still love to wrestling on the physical and microbiological hazard I suppose...

I'll wait for the next stats then...

October 2008 was actually our best month ever in terms of the number of visitors and unique visitors, so it’s not all doom and gloom. And if you want Indonesia to get into the top ten you know what to do, tell all of your friends and colleagues about this great forum. :thumbup:

That is our duty . Human being's duty.

That's the wonderful thing about the internet, you get to meet and share with people from all over the world. We may not see each other (for now) but nevertheless I think it's fantastic. We take this kind of meeting place for granted these days but cast your mind back ten years or so and places like this were nothing more than a wild imagination. The internet may not be wholly good but it must be one of the most amazing human creations ever.

Australia has proven their consistency and manage to take the position that taken by Malaysia last month. But wait, the visitor numbers between them is not too far away, Malaysia can take the position again. Its more like a motogp racing for me:)

The visits is lower than last month, and the bounce rate is increasing...

But the good news is the % of New Visits is increasing. I speculate they probably come from China.

But I dont understand what is "kickingriffinkate"? Why on earth people searching for that kind of word anyway? But uh oh.. it looks like the oprp getting loose it's popularity nowadays... The other interesting part is, the usage of IE is lower than last month, and the usage other browsers are increased, could it be...? Naaah, I wont speculate on that part...

And thank you for this months update Arya. I noticed numbers are down. I suspect that is partly because November is a short month and there have been some holdidays such as Thanksgiving in the US, maybe others. It feels a lot quieter though and I am as guilty as anyone. I've been very busy lately and not devoted enough time here. Maybe another competition is due. :helpplease:

By the way kickingriffinkate is a member here but I don't know why so many people search for her.

Yes, I can open the attachment now and sorry for a late reply. The statistics are interesting and hope the number of visits increase and the bounce rate decreases to a better rate than 63.19%.

I was going through the statistics from Sept to Dec 2008 and thought of summarizing the site statistics:-

Visitors were more in Oct (11,742) & less in Dec (8,820)

Bounce rate being the lowest in Oct with 63% and highest in Sept with 64.32.

Avg time on site was highest in Dec 00:03:40 & lowest in Nov 00:03:27

New visits high in Sept (75.93%) and less in Dec (73.58%).

Max visits from countries/territories were in Nov (156) with a total of 14,058 visit, though the max. visits were 15,169 from 151 countries/ territories in Oct. Lowest being in Dec (11,289 from 144).

The highest number of visits being from UK and followed by US.

Bounce rate above 70% for consecutive 4 months for US & Canada.

Lowest bounce rate, highest avg. time on site & including the pages / visit goes to U.A.E.

Thank you very much for that Jean although I’m not sure exactly what conclusions we can make. A bounce is when a visitor looks at one page then disappears back into the www. Well that could be a good sign or a bad sign in so much as they may well have found the information they were searching for and left perfectly satisfied or conversely they could think well this place is a load of old tosh. It could be a mixture. Either way it would feel better if we started to see this figure come down. The more worrying aspect for me is that we appear to have hit a plateau with the number of visitors. We have seen incremental increases in the number of visitors month on month for the whole of the last two years but towards the end of 2008 this sort of stopped. Of course there will be a limit for visitors for a site of this content but I’m sure we are way, way below our maximum possible numbers. We all want to be part of a thriving community but it has felt a little flat the last few months.

What to do about it is the big question?

I have some ideas but I would like to hear ideas from other members first if possible.

Hmmm, the stats seem bring some unhappiness to you... Too bad the visits is decreased quite significantly than before. I hope it'll better soon. Perhaps, because there is no serious matter regarding to food safety and quality issue nowadays. The topics on the forum seems also getting more "spesific" to the needs of the members. No hot issue that talked by everyone, yet...

I have an idea, might be kinda cliche. The most visitors coming from UK and US, probably, all the members on that region may gather and make some kind of food safety / quality event. Dont have to be big and hillarious event, just hangin together on some cozy place and held some meeting to discuss bout food issues, and ask the members about their opinions to groom this forum. Personally, I would attend the meeting if I work at London or NY.. :)

And other idea, might be rather self-righteous this time. All of the members in here are well experts on each field. I think we can do somethin worth for people out there. So many people on this world that dyin because malnutrition or consuming contaminated (cheap) foods... Maybe not in your case, but it happens in my country. I just think that we can create or develop somethin to solve it, and yell to the world that we are EXIST (umm, overkill perhaps?) Coz someone say, if you want to make yourself BIG, you should make people BIG first (or somethin like that..)

As for the Dec stats, I think everything was covered by J. Nice summary you have there:) All left for me I think its quite interesting that Netherlands is the new Phillipinneson the top ten..:) Its quite obvious coz so many new members coming from there lately. Go Holland!!:)

A little fed up Arya but not totally despondent. I can't be. Remember I started this place way back in 2002 and I was the only member for quite a long while. :smile:

Already we appear to have started 2009 with a bang as we are seeing a good pick up in traffic, so it's onwards and upwards for the forum. This place is and always will be a great archive of information; it’s quite unique in the world as a food safety networking resource so should always have a niche for those who need help on food safety maters. It will never be a youtube but hey. :smile:

Hi Arya,

Looking at the number of downloads it looks like only you and I are interested in the site statistics. Anyway thanks for your review as always. For my part I'm pleased we are back on track and I intend to send out more newsletters to keep the current membership base returning and also hopefully get some new members. I would also like to run more competitions on the forum. With almost 4,000 members running a competition and sending out a notification email always results in increased activity. The problem is at the moment I'm struggling to come up with a good idea for a competition. What’s new. :smile:

It’s not easy actually so if anyone has an idea for a competition please let me now.

Hmmm, too bad right now I am not in the zone to do some statistics reviews (well actually overall I am not in the mood today)..

But the other thing that I see is, the glossary section seems quite popular on this site. I think its very good, and I am sure lots of food expertise still wondering about the "real" definition in various food safety & quality terms.

As for myself, I am quite understand bout the concept of food terms, but not too well if someone ask the definition to me..:p Last but not least, IMO, it would be wonderful if the glossary attached with some references or other related informations. Coz who knows, it going to surpass the Wiki
