Does SQF requires Declaration of Glass Policy

Hi All!!!

Yet aother question....I was wondering that is it a SQF requirement to have a Glass policy and declare it at places in the production premises/?

Need your help!!

Hi Sumita,


Yes it is a requirement of SQF 2000 that you have a glass policy and that you maintain a glass register which should also include brittle material including lights on forklifts etc.

As always the good Doctor is correct. Specifically this is a pre-requisite program (6.9 Control of Physical Contaminants, and more specifically 6.9.1.2 Glass).

The requirement includes identifying and listing all glass, brittle plastic (particularly acrylic and excluding polycarbonate which is impact resistant), and ceramics) as well as performing regular inspections to ensure all food handling and product contact zones are free of brittle materials.

Thank you so much...just another doubt :dunno: is it necessary/requirement of the code to declare at places/areas of concern that 'We Follow Glass Policy'/??

There is not a requirement to post the glass policy, but employees shold show knowledge of it through interviews. There should be evidence of employee training and evidence the list of items to be monitored is accurate and that those items on the list are being monitored.
