I am to write a qulity control manual for a dairy company that I work for. I am looking for dairy packaging and dairy ingredient and raw material standards. Standards that relate to packaging materials like pots, bottles, cartoons, shrink films and so on. Do such standards exist!? Who could help me?

Dear asal90,

Unfortunately, based on existing posted articles in this forum, there are relatively few dairy specialists on this forum. That includes myself.

Moreover, encountering aggressive impoliteness successfully discourages people from searching the available literature on yr behalf.

I hope that answers yr questions.

Kind Regards,

Good manufacturing practice for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food

Have to agree with Charles' comments, it always pays to be polite, maybe you haven't got to that part of your M.Sc. course yet

Dear all

Ok. I was wrong. But I dont want some one say something 10 times. Any way, Excuse me if I was somehow bothersome.

You are not bothersome at all please do not take it personally. In order to keep the forum running smoothly we have to have some rules and procedures in place. We always try to get an answer to every question, but sometimes you have to be a little patient.

Welcome to the forum.

:welcome:

Simon

Asa190

You have to appreciate that the majority of the posters on this forum are probably quite busy holding down a full time job and probably with quite responsible positions

Now you say you require Raw Material specifications.

If you are already working for a company, then your suppliers should be sending you a specification for each material you purchase, be it packaging or an ingredient.

As part of your HACCP, you should have risk assessed whether this packaging or ingredient is suitable for the purpose. As part of your risk assessment, you have to take into account any legislation that may be relevant to your country. I notice that you are not in the UK, and therefore any legislation (or standards) that i may quote may be totally incorrect for your country.

As part of your HACCP, you should have looked at the relevant legislations. For example, in the UK, i would reference such legislation as:

Food Safety and General Food Hygiene Regulations 1995, Material Articles in Contact with Food Regulation 1997 (amended by SI 1994), The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2005 and The European Commission Regulation on Microbiological Criteria for Foodstuffs (2073/2005).
The Food Labelling (Declaration of Allergens) (Wales) Regulations 2008 & 2009,
The Food Labelling Regulations 1996,
Animal By Products 2011 (EC No. 1069/2009 and its accompanying Implementing Regulation (EC) 142/2011) *
Food Hygiene (Wales) Regulations 2006,
Regulation (EC) No 205/2009 on Plastic Materials and Articles Intended to Come into Contact with Food (Wales),
Regulation (EC) No 842/2009 Organic Products Regulations and 1902/2010 Organic Products (Amendment) Regulations

This list is not exhaustive, but may not be relevant in your country.

Again, as part of HACCP you should also have a pre-requiste programme that would take into consideration supplier approval.

Your raw materials, be it packaging or ingredients, would have been decided during your development procedure. Again you should have risk assessed, by carrying out shelf life tests or micro tests, if what you have is suitable.

You don't say what dairy ingredient you are producing. As you well know, there are dozens of Dairy based products out there, and many of these are governed by different legislations (bottled milk, yogurt, cheese, milk powders, canned goods)

Hope this has helped. Go chase your suppliers, and check your countries legislation!

Caz
