Hi,

I'm going to begin on my MSc Food Safety Management Dissertation... and would like to incorporate the research into a project that would help benefit my company, since I will also need their support in doing my research.
Of course, I will need to propose the idea and get both my company and my school's approval.

What do you think about the topics below? I'm working at a dairy products processing company and they are HACCP, ISO 9001 and 22000 certified.

1. The cost, benefits, and barriers of implementing HACCP inthe dairy processing sector.
2. Incentives for the adoption of food safety standards: HACCP,BRC and SQF

3. Customer-driven food safety and quality assurance

It will be a 100-page dissertation. my methodology may need to involve sending out surveys to customers, esp the "customer driven" topic. In that case I will need to address confidentiality issues as well. But will definitely need the company's approval and support on that.

I think realistically, you can forget about ISO 9001 as it's not related per se to food safety but ensuring that you have a "system" in place.

It would be interesting to see a comparisson between BRC & ISO 22K. HACCP would be incorporated as it forms a fundamental basis for both.

There are plenty of benefits (and drawbacks) with both systems. You need to outline these in your dissertation.

I'm not sure how the retailers are in Canada, but you could also take into account their standards.

Good luck, and i don't envy you. I've just started my Masters so I might be picking your brains!
