Hi, We're looking to train our drivers to gain better understanding of food safety and how to handle food products on delivery. Any tips on points to cover?

Thanks.

Dear Nadira,

Welcome to the forum! :welcome:

In order to get meaningful replies, it may be necessary to give some more info., eg what kind of products, what kind of driver function, eg 1st stage, distribution of final product, or ?

thank you for the welcome message and response.

We are looking to train drivers at final product stage delivery to warehouse and for distribution of food to retail store. The product range are varied but include dry goods such as rice and flour, fresh and frozen vegetables, meat and fish, ready to cook foods such as chicken goujons from within the UK and abroad.

regards,

Nadira

IMO, following areas must be convered in training / awareness session. You might want to review, add or deleted any of the point in compliance with the requirements of applicable standard, local regulatory bodies, customer and organization's own requirements.

1- Time and temperature limits monitoring and controlling during handling, including loading & unloading and transportation with respect to food safety. (Specific ranges for dry, fresh and frozen items, keeping in mind the regulatory requirements)

2- Hygiene requirements for vehicle to avoid food-contamination during transportation. (Visual inspection for no chance of contamination from any hazardous material, no remainings of previous consignments, no spots, no smell etc.)

3- Covered and secure status of vehicle (Environmental or food security issues including situations when vehicle is to be parked or remain unattended during transit)

4- Emergency preparedness awareness (procedures to follow in case of unexpected failure of cooling/heating equipment, monitoring equipment, vehicle breakdowns, accidents etc.)

5- Securing food material to prevent undesirable movement during transit.

6- Where applicable, assuring food safety status before start loading. (Inspection reports etc.)

7- Where applicable, any restrictions such as use of mix loads.

Dear Zeeshan,

Thks for yr eminently useful list of suggestions.

@Nadira,

One other possible source of information might be the BRC standard for storage and distribution. Not sure if this is now as equally accessible on the BRC website as the global food standard but could be worth a look.

Good job from you to train such as these people , no one knows what will happen to the food after dispatch from the food storage or food processing location , so they have to be trained in an emmergency cases such as shutting down the vehicle chillers or freezers , or if there is any malfunctions in the vehicle during their trip , so they have to be fully aware about the food temperature storage , temperature dangor zone , cleanlisness , pest control , food storage practice etc..
that's it .

Hygienic
