Dear nagi,

There are many ways to generate a Quality Manual. Usually the reason for your interest isthat some particular standard chosen by you for future certification requires such a document. ??

If so, the most common way is to obtain a copy of the relevant standard and "reverse engineer" the text to show that your documented system matches the standard's specific requirements. This is not the most elegant solution but usually the quickest. There are a few examples on this forum, eg ISO22000, but their specific usefulness depend on answer to my query.

here is example iso 9001 which illustrates overall procedure -

Hello Mr Nagi,

Quality manual for bottled drinking water will be hundreds of pages. It cannot be posted in this forum. However some guideline ,specification and templates can be attached here and you can make your own quality manual.

Source of water is very important and has to be tested if it is worth for drinking purpose and bottling operation. All parameters for drinking water quality has to be tested.

Normally all bottled water manufacturers don’t have facility to test all parameters .Hence some mandatory tests as per regulatory requirements for that country are tested and all other parameters are tested from outside approved lab.

Important of all is that source of water used should be of drinking water quality as per the regulatory requirements of the country.

Most of prerequisite programmes (PRPS) Like- Daily GHK, Personnel hygiene, GMP, Master Sanitation Schedule-( Daily Sanitation, Weekly sanitation, monthly sanitation , etc),pest control will be similar to other International standards.

Quality control like physical, chemical, instrumental & microbiological standards for raw water and product water can be done as per AOAC,APHA,ISO etc and documented to form Quality manual.

These tests require sophisticated instruments like atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS),Spectrophotometer, and sophisticated microbiological lab.

In india some parameters (mandatory) are tested in house while others are tested from approved outside labs (mandatory) as per regulatory requirements.

Apart from these you have to have certificate of analysis of pet bottles & caps used (1,2 & 20 lt bottles etc)e.g.migration test, water potability test etc.).

and also carry out microbiology sampling point (weekly)analysis of water at various points of equipment as per flow chart(e.g after filteration,R.O. etc),environment/air exposure microbiology ,and shelf life product testing, Net content testing, change of filters (cartridges)etc.

Maintaining & Filing of Documents ,Sop,Records of all parameters tested etc.

Flow chart outline for manufacture of bottles packaged drinking water-

Raw water (Periodically tested )------Raw water storage (may be chlorinated 3mg/L )----Sand filter cum Charcoal filter (removal of odour/chlorine---Pre filter (10 & 5µ )--Reverse osmosis----.22 µ filter--- UV sterilization--Ozonisation (.2-.4 ppm)ccp------Bottle rinsing/filling capping-------Date /batch coding---Warehousing/distribution,

I am attaching files for parameters for testing raw water and finished product water as to our regulatory standard.

REGARDS
SUSHIL

Dear SUSHIL,

Thks for interesting collection of procedures.

I noticed the IS have a liking for the terminology "Absent in ..." for various microbiological, etc items. This old format although still popular (sounds impressive ??) is scientifically of limited value IMHO. preferably replaced by "Not detected in ...."

It (as always) depends on the actual requirements of OP but in ISO-speak, a Quality Manual can actually be quite short since it may contain only Policies, with specific Procedures, etc cross-referenced. This format is convenient for many Companies' promotional purposes since it avoids divulging internal information. In contrast the related "Procedures" manual may be enormous.

It is also possible the OP is also confusing terms with a "Quality Assurance" manual which would be something rather different.

Again, the OP may mean something other than all our interpretations.

Some further input from nagi would be nice perhaps ?

Rgds / Charles.C

Kind Regards,

Hi Nagi

I would suggest the Irish Standard IS 432: 2010 For Packaged Waters. I have used it a number of times to develop Quality Manuals for bottlled water operations. It is copy right so I cannot post it but it can be obtained from the National Standards Authority of Ireland

IS 432

Thanks very much all for the useful comments

I think at first Nagi should determine the standard he will build on his Quality manual , I think the indian standard may be not suitable for him if his country has specific standard for drinking water quality as the usual in most of countries

Thanks

Ahmed
