Regarding mock recalls, does anyone know if there is guidance as to how long one should take if it includes everything from trace to recall? 2 hours, 4 hours, etc.?

Thanks,

Neil

It depends on the customer. Costco, for example, specifies 100% trace back in 2 hours. (above an beyond what our SQF certification states)

Our initial policy stated mock recall with 100 +/- 5% in four hours and we were told to change it to 100+/- 2% but told to leave it to 4 hours since we have a manual process of mock recall.

We do a trace mock recall every 6 months and must be able to identify 100% of the product within 4 hours. I believe this is also the requirement with BRC

For Tesco all affected products must be located within 4 hours of the withdrawal / recall being started.

Hi Neil,

Typically 4 hours for full traceability, although I have seen SQF guidance of up to 24 hours.

BRC Global Standard for Food Safety 3.9 Traceability Clause 3.9.2:

The company shall test the traceability system across the range of product groups to ensure traceability can be determined from raw material to finished product and vice versa, including quantity check/mass balance. Full traceability should be achievable within four hours.

Regards,

Tony
