Off topic :off_topic:  chat time:

So who can't wait for the Dr. Who 50th?  Anyone planning to see it in the theatre in 3D?

I'm looking at buying a new (used maybe from ebay) HD LED LG TV for it  with my paid out vacation from my last job.

Matt Smith and David Tennant together.... :yikes:

Hi Merle, I was born in 66 so my first doctor was Tom Baker, well maybe the tail end of Jon Pertwee, but most of his time I spent hiding behind the sofa, the music and scary graphic intro frightened me to death.  I sort of lost interest after Tom, well I sort of lost interest in television due to the pursuit of other things, the other things young men pursue.  That was until David Tennant, the reincarnation was fantastic, but then again I've not seen Matt Smith at all.  Will definitely be watching the 50th anniversary edition, probably at home with the wife and kids.

Cheers,

Simon

They are all, except the last season, on Netflix. I'd recommend watching them if you have access.

Honestly Matt Smith is not nearly as good as David Tennent, in my opinion, but there was more of a sense of what he was actually doing to his companions in those seasons which I felt added depth to the character and the show that wasn't there as much before.

Not to mention his main companion and her boyfriend were really great!

I will watch for David Tennant, Matt Smith much less so. He and Christopher Eccelston really captured my imagination. Yeah...imagination.

I saw an episode on the big screen last year and it was wonderous. (no TARDIS emoticons?)

I blame Simon for there not being a Tardis emoticon :yeahrite:  :ninja:

I loved the episode.  I don't like Matt Smith much except that his seasons brought, what I think was, more of a humanity to what he does to his companions and what he has done to the galaxy.

If you haven't watched all of his episodes watch "When a good man goes to war" I think it's around season 6 or 7.  One of the best Matt Smith episodes along with "The Pandorica opens".

I have a friend, who when dressed up for cons, looks just like David Tennant... It's really amazing... and I have pics.

I didn't like Christopher Eccelston much.  I liked Hurdt he was pretty cool.  I loved how he kept scolding the other two for pointing their sonic screwdrivers at people like weapons lol "They're scientific instruments!".

What did you think about the show?

Sorry for the late reply.  If you are talking about the Christmas special I thought it started off a little slowly, but got better and better. We really enjoyed it.  If you tried to deconstruct the logic it didn't make sense, why was John Hurt old?  Anyway that's Doctor Who for you.

I will have a look for a tardis emoticon when I get a minute. :x_biggrin:

lol that would be great Simon,

How old the doctor looks isn't really an issue because he just changes what he looks like when he regenerates.  If you watch the first season of classic doctor who he looks significantly older than Matt Smith and David Tennant.  So that's not really a logic issue for the show.

I actually liked it more the more I watched it (about 5 times so far).  The first time I thought it was a little bit of a let down.

Also it was the 50th anniversary the Christmas special hasn't been aired yet that will be the one where Matt Smith's doctor dies and the next doctor starts.  The next doctor was a minor actor in one of the previous episodes where the doctor and Donna travel to Pompeii before it is destroyed by the volcano.  He is the father of the family that the doctor interacts with a lot in the episode.

So... who watched the first episode of the new season and thought to themselves... if it wasn't for Strax, the Lizard woman, and her girlfriend I could have slept for two hours?

I seriously hope the next episode is 100X better.  There were decent parts but I thought it was a bit of a let down.

First episodes with new Doctors have so much ground to cover, I give them a bit of leeway.  I DO like Strax and Vastra, but I have since the beginning. We'll see...

Who doesn't like grenades and automated laser monkeys?

I did like the part where he was wooing the dinosaur and (the thing) happened... that was hilarious (spoilers)

I did and thought it was quite poor compared to the oldies. Disappointing. I know new doctors have to grow on you, but the story was a bit lame and no need to hide behind the sofa. I will give it one more shot tomorrow.

:sofa1:

Now that's what I call Dr Who.
