Fantasy World Cup Competition (Mystery Prize on Offer)

Best Answer , 20 July 2014 - 10:24 AM

Well at the end of a thoroughly captivating competition the only entrants remaining with a "will to live" are:

Mr I - 89 points
Tony C - 72 points
Jpredmore - 70 points

By sticking with it to the end they all deserve a prize; I must say it was rather complex and with hindsight...blah, blah, blah...

I'm just going to verify (or is it validate) Mr I's score, unless he has it completely wrong I think he is the convincing winner. I will be back shortly to confirm.

Added:

OK I'm back and I have MR I's score at 93. Admittedly I could have miscounted as one needs a degree in such things to compute, however allowing for a degree of uncertainty it was certainly a lot more than 72 and on that basis I declare Mr I the winner of this enthralling competition. Thankfully the next world cup is 4 years away...

The winning scoresheet.

I will be back again in another little while to announce the prize.

Added:

I figured after such a tense and stressful competition you may want to relax with a large strong coffee whilst squeezing on something nice and soft and perhaps a lucky pen for entering competitions. Here are your prizes Mr I...congratulations!  Please send me a PM with your address.

There's a long, long way to go guys. I thoroughly enjoyed Spain v Holland, what the word cup is all about. Van Persies goal probably the best headed goal I've ever seen. Beautiful.

Yes even the ever modest Van Persie himself is quoted as saying it was 'a brilliant goal'

I think I'm on a pretty poor looking 4 points so far so need some help in today's games, I've gone for:

Colombia 1 - 0 Greece
Uruguay    2 - 1 Costa Rica
England    1 - 1 Italy
Ivory Coast 1 - 1 Japan

Be soooooooo happy if I'm wrong and England win though!

Dear All,

No draws in the first 8 games. I suspect this is a rare event.

2 games fell asleep in front of the box so far, one over a plate of food.

Audio I spy can help a bit, eg counting the number of von Possees, Ragatwitches, etc

This isn't going well, an England loss and only 2 points yesterday :crybaby:

More hopeful with predictions of Switzerland, France and Argentina all to win 2 - 0 today

I'm playing this at home with the family, I put up a small prize. Right now I'm bottom of the table on 4pts. I had 1-1 Switzerland v Ecuador...

So... I can definitely say that I have watched more soccer (Futball) in 3 days than I have watched the entirety of my life and it is a pretty exciting game.  I do like the pace of how it and how it, pretty much, doesn't stop except a short half time break.

So let me ask this:  How do they decide the extra minutes?  Do they run a clock on the fouls and stoppages of play and add it up and round it... or is it more of a generalization like 5 stoppages = 1 minute...  Just wondering I might as well learn a little about the game while I watching.  I asked someone what the rules were and they said there really isn't any lol.  Obviously there are a few because I've seen fouls... But I've seen a lot of pushing too.. so I'm guessing you can't knock someone down but that's about it.  And you can't be in the goalie's box when someone is shooting on goal.

And as such I think I'm doing pretty well sitting today at 8/11 correct wins completely unaware of who I should have voted for.

Nigeria

Germany

USA

That's who I'm rooting for today.

That's what concerns me, I've been watching football and world cups since 1978. I'm 6/11

Today Nigeria win, Draw, Draw

Added time is due to stoppages (injuries requiring treatment etc.) during the 45 minutes and substitutions which is why there is usually more at the end of the second half.

Nice to see people back at work and on the forums today! :sleazy:

Regards,

Tony

Well I've been trying to stay on top of the forums more now that it's on tapatalk.

I used it once because I was going to join a Star Wars actor club where they are licensed to perform at events and the proceeds went to charity.  One guy actually had a working R2D2 that I got pics and a video with.  For that one he had to get written permission by George Lucas.  But really I didn't have the time and money to invest in it (hundreds to thousands of dollars depending on how many costumes you want to have) though they do get together and do light saber battles to practice (or for fun) for events.  What can I say I love Theatre and acting...

Anyhow... so yeah I do keep tabs on the forums more at work because I can just keep the window open lol.

Scoring:

2 points for a correct result

3 bonus points for a correct score

(so maximum possible points per game = 5)

Ok so I missed this. I'll have to see if I have any correct scores.  Now on the Spain game I had 5-1... it was just the wrong winning team so do I get 3 points for having the actual final score but not 2 for the correct result?

A monkey picking at random would have 3 or 4 out of 11 given there are 3 possible results each game.

For me it reads like my school reports; Must try harder, Must try to concentrate, Must try not to be distracted by others :whoosh: Still my exam results sent a message to those vindictive teachers :bird:

With only 11 games out of 64 gone I'm hopeful of at least catching Mr Inc up!

Ok I was wrong I had 5 - 2 on the Spain game.. not 5 - 1 but the France and Honduras game I had 3 - 0

so tallying it so far after 4 days I have 25 / 55 possible points (I'm not feeling so good anymore) if I tallied that right.
