Fantasy World Cup Competition (Mystery Prize on Offer)

Best Answer , 20 July 2014 - 10:24 AM

Well at the end of a thoroughly captivating competition the only entrants remaining with a "will to live" are:

Mr I - 89 points
Tony C - 72 points
Jpredmore - 70 points

By sticking with it to the end they all deserve a prize; I must say it was rather complex and with hindsight...blah, blah, blah...

I'm just going to verify (or is it validate) Mr I's score, unless he has it completely wrong I think he is the convincing winner. I will be back shortly to confirm.

Added:

OK I'm back and I have MR I's score at 93. Admittedly I could have miscounted as one needs a degree in such things to compute, however allowing for a degree of uncertainty it was certainly a lot more than 72 and on that basis I declare Mr I the winner of this enthralling competition. Thankfully the next world cup is 4 years away...

The winning scoresheet.

[attachment=5485:Copy of World_Cup_2014_Mr Incogneto.xlsx]

I will be back again in another little while to announce the prize.

Added:

I figured after such a tense and stressful competition you may want to relax with a large strong coffee whilst squeezing on something nice and soft and perhaps a lucky pen for entering competitions. Here are your prizes Mr I...congratulations!  Please send me a PM with your address.

Certainly fun Tony lol.

I hope my points can get me through the final because I know for sure I can't get points in about 1/2 to 3/4 of those games.

Snookie... remember.  If you picked really bad just blame it on being American and how we only watch sports that we really don't participate in to support our country...  There was a link to a flow chart on who to cheer for in the World Cup and it was pretty hilarious but it's been removed now :(

I would like to publically apologize, completely of my own accord, to Tony for suggesting he could be a "Troll".   :(  I'm not even going to attempt to explain what it means in my own mind because it doesn't really matter.

I was unaware until I was looking around online at a few things that "Trolling" in an inflammatory (not that he was inflammatory in any way) way is actually a crime, in and of itself, in England.  Of course recently it has been used to charge people in the United States a little bit but typically, as I've seen, mostly in the event that it causes a suicide or something of that matter.

Tony is a very well regarded member of the community and someone who is constantly helping other people in the pursuit of better food safety and quality.

Thank you for everything you've done here at IFSQN.      And if I ever make it over to your side of the world again we'll have to share a pint

and sorry I'm kicking your butt in the brackets :shades:  (hey I had to put a little humor into this post... you can't blame me for trying)

Yes I'm one of those - a dismal 41 points.

I won't be improving much as blind meant I had England doing well plus I had Spain to go all the way to the final - Both out after a week/2 games :sorcerer:

I see the boys (and girls) are home. Very low key, plane stopped off in Manchester to drop the northern boys off.  Wasn't worth Colleen going all that way really! Mind you she had a couple of days to top her tan up on Coppacabana beach!

I'm watching with interest the did he / didn't he bite debate. You expect better of grown men!

Before anyone says anything , I don't hate England per se, I just hate football!!  There are many a great English (wo)man in sport who are far more worthy of adulation.

I don't think she was in 'cattle class' so it probably wasn't too arduous a trip.

I've never actually watched rugby... one of the guys I worked with at my last company wanted me to come and play... I decided against it.  From what I know it's a more violent version of our football... I'm good.

I was thinking more like (Sir) Bradley Wiggins (Paul Wellers younger brother!) Chris Frome , Geraint Thomas or Mark Cavendish . Also some of the Olympic and Paralympic competitors deserve every adoration out there.

We are lucky in that we excel in a number of sports, just not football!

I have respect for anyone that completes Le Tour let alone wins it. I have been up some of these famous climbs (which are unforgiving for cyclists) whilst touring on the motorbike, even my CBR 600 struggled to get to the top of the Col du Tourmalet

Wow 4 months... though I heard that this offence happens often with Luis.  They were saying you have a better chance to be bitten by him than a shark lol.  I believe it was some group in England that said it.  And apparently some people made some good money off of it: http://www.bbc.com/s...otball/28016737

He has done this so many times, they make bets on it.    Ban was too light...this many times; the price should have been heavier and Uruguay should have had the game taken away for having such a player.  That would discourage having players with this kind of behavior.   Stepping off soap box now.

Dear All,

I recall a certain defender for Leeds United & England whose supporters liked to wave the memorable banner "Norman Bites Yer Legs" but in his case I think it was more a stamp of approval to his overall tough tackling game.

In contrast  LS seems to be the real deal.

Described recently as the most carnivorous sportsman currently active (Mike Tyson was suggested as the previous holder).

I wonder if the repair treatment was covered by Medical Insurance.

Rgds / Charles.C

PS - In truth it is more like a tragedy because he is undoubtedly gifted as far as purely playing football is concerned.

Kind Regards,

Charles.C

Not on a football pitch  :sleazy:

Well done USA

From an England perspective it is real shame he didn't play and bite someone in Uruguay's 1st game against Costa Rica :ejut:

You do all know that if you have (for example) in the knockout stages Greece V Spain in a last 16 place and it is two entirely different teams contesting that match the result/score you have in those boxes will still apply...even if Chile V Somalia are playing.

Hope that makes sense.

You can score points in every single match!!!

Hi Simon,

Good to know, I had given up calculating many matches ago as possible onward points rapidly tended to extinction.

However, one would have thought that predicting the correct  named teams was also deserving of some explicit bonus. Obviously makes calculation a lot quicker though. Total football > Total fantasy.

Um... sure.  I'm just happy your are going to be totaling it all at the end in case I have no idea what game is which... I don't watch them all.  Do you have a link to a "Results Bracket" that would mirror the one we have but have the actual correct teams on it online?  Maybe some England sports website or the FIFA website?
