Fantasy World Cup Competition (Mystery Prize on Offer)

Best Answer , 20 July 2014 - 10:24 AM

Well at the end of a thoroughly captivating competition the only entrants remaining with a "will to live" are:

Mr I - 89 points
Tony C - 72 points
Jpredmore - 70 points

By sticking with it to the end they all deserve a prize; I must say it was rather complex and with hindsight...blah, blah, blah...

I'm just going to verify (or is it validate) Mr I's score, unless he has it completely wrong I think he is the convincing winner. I will be back shortly to confirm.

Added:

OK I'm back and I have MR I's score at 93. Admittedly I could have miscounted as one needs a degree in such things to compute, however allowing for a degree of uncertainty it was certainly a lot more than 72 and on that basis I declare Mr I the winner of this enthralling competition. Thankfully the next world cup is 4 years away...

The winning scoresheet.

[attachment=5485:Copy of World_Cup_2014_Mr Incogneto.xlsx]

I will be back again in another little while to announce the prize.

Added:

I figured after such a tense and stressful competition you may want to relax with a large strong coffee whilst squeezing on something nice and soft and perhaps a lucky pen for entering competitions. Here are your prizes Mr I...congratulations!  Please send me a PM with your address.

Instructions:

On the attached spreadsheet enter a score for every match including last 16, quarter final, semi final, final and 3rd/4th place play off.

Note 1: if you put any draws in the knockout stages you will need to fill in a penalty score (first to five) to make a team progress to the next round.

Note 2: For judging purposes all scores are 90 minutes play (I will ignore extra time goals and of course penalty shoot outs).  For scoring I'm only looking for results and scores in the boxes and not the teams playing in the games.

Submit a copy of your completed spreadsheet by email to (teamatifsqndotcom) by 11 June.

Scoring:

2 points for a correct result

3 bonus points for a correct score

(so maximum possible points per game = 5)

You keep your own score and we can swap and brag as the competition progresses and we'll compile a table at the conclusion to determine the winner.

Winner & Prize:

Winner is the player with top score.

The Prize...it's a mystery...

Questions below please.

So... for the Americans... what is a normal score for a team at the end of a soccer game lol :shades:

Maybe I'll use other references to try to guess a score for the games...  (I've never watched more than 5 minutes of a soccer game in my whole life).  I'm more into Football (North American) and Hockey.

How many people are on a team?

I'd like Setana, Caz, Snookie, Mr I, and Charles on my fantasy team.  And Micheal Jordan, Brian Smalls, and the dragon from the Hobbit.

Ohhh I call Gandalf... and the bad guys from Tron (new Tron not the old one).  Can we use the bikes from Tron?  How about the disks? "I FIGHT FOR THE USERS!"

(and we see how much the average American citizen knows about soccer)

Though I can't answer your question of how many people are on a team... or even on the field.  Maybe I'll have to make guesses and watch this year?  At least I understand most of Soccer (I think) I could never get the hang of that baseball like game with the widgets and all of that... I can't remember the name anymore... it was talked about in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy... ohh it was Cricket (I had to look it up online).

I even downloaded the rules and tried to watch a game on youtube... no joy.

I do love Curling which is more of a Canadian sport than American...  I don't understand it all but I try to watch as much as I can during the Olympics.

Any woman that has had sight of the French Rugby Calendar (google it girls, I promise you its well worth a look! but don't google it in work!) will tell you why rugby players are superior to footballers (soccer , not American)

I have a 2007 one, cost me a fortune, but I'm still on January (Sean Lamont in his shin pads, and not a lot more!) Better than valium any day! Worth every penny.

Some of you don't seem to be taking this seriously!

My World Cup Dream Team:

Goalkeeper: Joe Hart (England)

Defenders: Philipp Lahm (Germany), Vincent Kompany (Belgium), Patrice Evra (France)

Midfielders: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Steven Gerrard (England), Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast), Arjen Robben (Netherlands)

Forwards: Luis Suarez (Uruguay), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Sergio Aguero (Argentina)

Only 1 Sub: Rooney (England) - can play anywhere equally well

Ooops! No Brazilians! :silly:

I like your choices Tony...what a tema.  I may just swap your goalie for Manuel Neuer and the big one is Patrice...sorry he can't defend and with three at the back you need someone reliable. I'd put Lahm at left back and Pablo Zabaleta at right back. Or maybe just chuck Luke Shaw in at left back.

It appears we have very few members with an interest in football.

For those of you who are in good luck...and let's share our performance in this thread (I've filled a sheet in just for fun).

Keeper decision is so difficult, there's David de Gea (Spain) and Gianluigi Buffon (Italy) to consider as well.

Zabaleta is a winger No? He is good going forward I'll admit.

If you want an English left back you'd put in Baines not because he's a great defender but because he can deliver a ball, score from free kicks and.......... take a penalty! :sorcerer:

I like that Baines was picked instead of Ashley Cole in the squad because it implies we are thinking about attacking rather than not conceding although it could (and probably will) all end up in tears! - Mine again, happens every 4 years.

The best defender not at the World Cup is Branislav Ivanović and he'd make my team for sure.

I was intimidated by the sheer number of games to get to the final 16. I might be able to fake my way through the brackets, but not 48 games.

Rugby, you say??? Hmmmm. Absolutely cannot at work, but afterwards...

Yes that's because they have Cristiano Ronaldo although I don't have any weird feelings for him just 'bad thoughts', especailly if England have to play against him/Portugal, after all he is a w*nker?
