We bought a new MAP gas analyzer (O2 and CO2 analyser) and wasn't quite sure how to validate the equipment.
Can someone please help me how to validate the MAP analyser?

The equipment and methodology used should be validated as indicated iso 17025: identity, selectivity/specificity, limit of detection, limit of quantification, recovery, working and linera range, recovery, accuracy/trueness, repeatibility precision, intermediate precisión (reproducibility)

Your equipment should come with certificate of calibration. For daily checks we used to check O2 by getting a reading on room air. It can vary but think it is generally around 20-21%. Since we also had Nitrogen in the building we would put the tip in a stream of nitrogen to verify that it was not reading O2. Readings should be stable. CO2 can be checked by breathing near the tip which should cause a fluctuation. If you need to validate the equipment you will most likely need to send it to someone such as the manufacturer to verify it is working correctly.

Hi Snookie..Yes our equipment came with a calibration certificate. Doesn't this mean that this is already validated for checking gases and ready to go. With SQF, is the calibration certificate enough for its validation purpose to ensure that the equipment can be used for monitoring or checking the gas mixture in the pack.
Verification is that – Every 12 months – we are calibrating as per manual

Validation and calibration are two different concepts, but both are used, and are essential, to provide certainty in the measurements: calibration is to compare the response of the instrument against a standard and establish the chain of traceability; validation, on the other hand, is to ensure that the measurement system is fitness for the intended use. You can have a perfectly well-calibrated system, but it may not be fitness for the intended use
