Vacuum Shopping!

We are looking to purchase a vacuum to clean our racks.  We have dry cleaning only, covered, stored product and 2ndary wrap in the racking.  We have those little troughs on our racks which is unfortunate.  Preferrably this would be carried on the employee's back to we can use the boom lift to get to the top racks.  This is a warehousing area physically separated from production.  No dust or water, so we don't need an explosion proof or any added safety precautions.

Does anyone have a vacuum they love that they can recommend, or one they hate that I should avoid? 

Vacuums you definitely get what you pay for if you go cheap.  There are HEPA backpack vacs out there that are pricey ($500 or so), but performance can be an issue.  You only get so much flow out of a HEPA. 

I personally have liked the heavy duty 4-5 gallon "wall-mount" vacuums.  Plenty of suction, ok filtration, and not too large for one person to easily handle.  It seems from your description of what you want to do, this type of vac would not pose a high risk.  About $120.

It may not work for you, but I've seen folks just wipe down racking to clean it, starting from the top of empty racking while on a lift and with an extension pole and work their way down.

Ah, $120 isn't bad.  I'll check those out - we don't have air connections in our warehouse, so we can't do something that needs air.  We tried the wipe down & the employees...with their whining....

I was sitting at home over this weekend and an infomercial came on about a suction leaf vacuum with a backpack called Worx or something like that, and I had half a mind to take a picture and write down the number so that with 3 easy payments of $33.33 it could all be yours Magenta. Too bad it said act now for this low price. Then it occurred to me, I was thinking about my IFSQN fellows over the weekend.
