Our current objectives for the ISO 14001 are the following and I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions on how we can improve our current objectives and clarify how we can measure them accordingly

1.       Reduce electricity usage

a.       Reduce CO2 emissions

b.      Improved cooling insulation

2.       Reduce waste water and discharges

a.       COD and BOS reduction

3.       Reduce CO2 emissions from delivery trucks

a.       Accomplishing this by purchasing fuel economical trucks

b.      Better delivery routes

These objectives are not very good. In order to set proper objectives they must fulfill some criteria, they must be quantified and timed, otherwise you wont know whether you achieved them or not. For example "Reduce CO2 emissions for 20% in 2015", this way you will know where you stand.

The next step is to establish programs on how you are gonna decrease the CO2 emissions, what actions must be conducted to meet the objective. Ant then, by the end of the year, when you do the management review you will know whether the objectives are met or determine why not.
