Hello everybody,

I am a new guy to this wonderful site and am grateful for this great resource.

I work at a flexible packaging facility.  We are working towards achieving Level 2 SQF certification. A member of our SQF team attended a seminar in which multiple SQF Professionals stated that hands must be washed all the way up to the elbows.

1. Are auditors really looking for this?

2. Should an exception be written for long sleeves?

Thank you for any help in this matter.

Big Wally

Personally I have not heard of the requirement that hands be washed up to the elbow, it should take 20 seconds with warm water & soap. The paper towel should be used to dry hands, turn off the taps & then thrown in the garbage but thats all just best practice.

Hi Big Wally,

Looks like you have proven that SQF have a sense of humour.

Or perhaps the Sample were all  Engineers.

Good question. Personally I have not heard about these kind of stuff and requirements. But it should be followed, there is no harm in following it. Professional start up!

If I see someone carrying eggs in their elbows I'll start asking for it.

Big Wally

I have not heard of this requirement. Neither I have seen any auditor following it during the audit. In my opinion hands should be washed throughly to ensure that chances of contamination of food are minimized.
