What are everyones thoughts on wrist blades for sinks. Would these fulfill the hands free section for SQF 11.3.2.3?

And as always,Thanks for your input!

Hi Brian,

Don't see a problem with wrist controllers - it remains hands free.  SQF does not specify the type of hands free sink, so as long as it performs to the intent of the section all should go well.  We use foot pedals, but perahps others in the network have direct experience with wrist blades.

Good luck!

Hi Brian,

No idea what a wristblade is (sounds like something out of Sherlock Holmes) but I think some EC documentation does specify foot/knee. Maybe to protect against contortionists.

Kind Regards,

Hi Brian,

I think such sinks are elbow operated normally and as such compliant.

Guidance for Developing, Documenting, Implementing, Maintaining and Auditing an SQF System SQF Code, Edition 7.2 – Module 11: Food Safety Fundamentals – Good Manufacturing Practices for Processing of Food Products 11.3.2 Implementation Guidance:
Hands-free operated taps can include foot, knee or elbow operated handles, auto-sensing devices or any other method that does not require the user to touch the handle with their washed hands to turn it off.

Kind regards,

Tony

Hello,

IMHO, foot operated sink is common in foot bath. Elbow operated hand washing facility  is best suited inside production area.

our facets are hands free, they have a motion sensor in them and when you put your hand under the facet the water comes out. our soap and hand sanitizer dispensers are also hands free, just put your hand under it and get a squirt. our doors are also hands free, they have the little toothy plate thing on the bottom you can pull open with your foot. paper towels are still manual, you have to pull them out of the dispenser.

elbow and wrist type sinks are not considered hands-free. Go watch for a while and see if they are. 9 out 10 people use their hands.
