Artisan Bakery Delivery how to keep product off vehicle floor?

Hello,

I work for an artisan bakery which delivers fresh product daily, in vans. Many of the routes are completely filled with customer orders. We have shelving on the border of the interior of these vans. However, we still store many plastic bags and stack/nest containers containing packed orders on the ground. Does anyone have a solution to get all product up off the ground? Our fleet consists of around 15 vans.

Hello Blake,

Fast and cheap solution is to put plastic pallets on floor of vehicles. This plastic pallets will be removed and washed each time when washing of vehicle is performed and it can be additional disinfected.

Additionally you can evaluate the product flow, so to understand are your final products goes further in production or directly to consumer. Here you need to think is it possible that some floor contamination from vehicle is transferred to packaging and from packaging further on work surfaces. If this is not the case i think than there is no to much concerns. 

Also in many cases it is communicated that there is proper cleaning of vehicles in cases when bulked goods is transported. In cases where there are some transport packaging than detailed cleaning is not needed.

Just use pallets and/or assign an empty crate (if you are using one) as base or bottom crate

Contact a truck bed company and ask for custom fit (flexible) 1 inch or so riser palleting for your vans, that is what we see at our bakery clients that run local routes.  Remember the day when it was OK to drop of paper sacks of french bread at the front door of restaurants, yes, those were the days!
