Dear All,

I am a new QA manager for a small frozen food manufacturer. I am planning to change the net weight of our products and add E-mark on packages at the same time. I read the relevant regulations and guidelines. I found I need to contact our local trading standards and inform them we are going to use E-mark in the future. My question is what kinds of notice should I give to local trading standards? And what kind of the information should I put in the notice? If you have the relevant experience please advise.

Moreover, what is the procedure to change products' net weight? Do I need to give a notice to any organizations?

Many thanks,

Kun

Dear Kun,

Assuming that an approval will be similar as in the Netherlands, there will be an inspection carried out by that authority at your company.

They will look to your weighing system, the scales, the checkweighers and to the relevant instructions and records.

In my experience, changing the declared weight (meaning for example a change from 500 g in 450 g) on products is quite complex, as such information is recorded in external logistical systems.

I hope that this information helps you further. Good luck with this interesting topic!

Kind regards,

Hi Kun,

It probably is complex as illustrated by these relatively simple older threads (there are others which examine the quantitative aspects in more detail) -
