Food poisoning can take many forms and symptoms, and no everyone will have the same symptoms depending on individual differences. It is entirely possible that illness from food could result in any combination of gastrointestinal symptoms, or even with just mild stomach cramps and no "fluids". As always, it is up to a doctor to make diagnoses. If you're responding to a customer complaint, always encourage them to see a doctor if they have concerns.

Whether you have vomiting and/or diarrhea all depends on how long it takes the bug to affect the body as both reactions are just your body trying to get the bad stuff out ASAP.

If it's quick you'll probably only get vomiting and nothing else; if it's a 24 hour thing it'll probably be diarrhea; if it's ongoing for a few days you'll probably get both with additional stomach cramps and all the other fun things that accompany it like fever while you're body tries to fight the infection.

If this is from a complaint for a specific product, you need to look at what might affect that product (and any raw materials that went into it) and go from there.

“Will this be on the test?" "Yeah, about the test. The test will measure whether you are an informed, engaged, and productive citizen of the world, and it will take place in schools and bars and hospitals and dorm rooms and in places of worship. You will be tested on first dates, in job interviews, while watching football, and while scrolling through your Twitter feed. The test will judge your ability to think about things other than celebrity marriages, whether you’ll be easily persuaded by empty political rhetoric, and whether you’ll be able to place your life and your community in a broader context. The test will last your entire life, and it will be comprised of the millions of decisions, that when taken together, make your life yours. And everything — EVERYTHING — will be on it.”

Hi hygiene,

The possible causes of yr (one) sympton are  "various".

It might not even be food poisoning.

I suggest to ask a Doctor or perhaps supply more context.

Kind Regards,

Hi Charles

it happened with my friend' kids ,they ate their lunch and after 2 hrs they started vomiting and continued the same for the next day ,without fever or diarrhea ,so i wondered what kind of poisoning can cause only vomiting.

but finally they got the lab result at the hospital and it was a virus which  caused this but dont know whether transferred from food or no !! any way kids are very good now

After 2 hours with vomiting only it could be staph aureus or bacillus cereus with the latter being more likely due to the lack of diarrhoea.  B. cereus is strongly associated with cereals but especially rice.  Had they eaten any reheated or cold rice at all?

Oh just saw it was confirmed as a virus.  Just as likely to be person to person as person to food so really difficult to know.

Interesting to find out how that was confirmed as the rice is an absolute red flag for b. cereus especially keeping it that long after cooking.  Did they detect a virus or did they assume from the history?  Note that with b. cereus especially if there is only vomiting, you may not detect the bacterium as the food poisoning is caused by a toxin.
