Food safety scope basically provides an idea and vision about nature of your product and the way this is going to be processed that includes all the Raw materials, utilities, manpower, environment and other factors those are going to be assessed to get an safe end product.

You need to describe you product and its processing with regulatory terminology of its process and product category.

To have a clear answer from the members you need to define following queries.

1) Which standard you are referrring?  for example ISO 22000, BRC Food or other?

2) The exact statement of requirement from that standard.

I presume you are talking about scope of food safety management system?

Hi Zeeshan,

Yes I am referring to FSMS scope.

Hi Tonying0287,

The FSMS scope needs to include activities, processes, products or services that can have an influence on the food safety of end products:

ISO 22000:2018 4.3 Determining the scope of the food safety management system

The organization shall determine the boundaries and applicability of the FSMS to establish its scope. The scope shall specify the products and services, processes and production site(s) that are included in the FSMS. The scope shall include the activities, processes, products or services that can have an influence on the food safety of its end products.

When determining this scope, the organization shall consider:

a) the external and internal issues referred to in 4.1;

b) the requirements referred to in 4.2.

The scope shall be available and maintained as documented information.

Kind regards,

Tony

Our scope is just our facility, process, and finished products. It doesn't need any more than that.

Hi John,

Thks input.

I am definitely no expert on the new (2018) iso22000 but the above is maybe (?) more like an appropriate response to (I'm guessing) the "scope" of FSMS in the old (2005) iso22000.

Appears new iso22000 has somewhat  "expanded" the scope requirements  as illustrated in Post 7.

As I understand the (4.1-4.3) clauses in iso22000 are now aligned to the same numbered clauses in the latest (2015) iso9001.

i noticed this, IMHO, quite nice, albeit basic, presentation of  the latter's QMS scope requirements (ie understandable in normal English) -

Attached File  Scope of QMS in ISO9001 (2015).pdf   213.81KB   308 downloads

PS - these 3 files also looked to offer useful content regarding  "scope"

Attached File  Similarities and Differences between iso22000 and iso9001.pdf   203.81KB   163 downloads

Attached File  identifying the context of the organisation (4.1) in iso9001.pdf   212.87KB   202 downloads

Attached File  determining interested parties (4.2) in iso9001.pdf   140.36KB   161 downloads
