Preventive Maintenance – How is it related to Food Safety

Taking place:

Friday, April 26, 2019 - 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM UK Time

This is a 10.00 AM Eastern US Start

Presenter:

Radojka Barycki, Technical Training Manager, SCS Global Services

Webinar Overview:

Preventive Maintenance is a must to have Pre-Requisite Program if you want to be certified under a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard. However, a Preventive Maintenance Program is much more than a requirement. Proper maintained equipment allows that the plant runs smoothly, which creates cost savings in the long run. It also prevents equipment from becoming a source for the introduction of hazards due to the lack of of performance (i.e. not achieving operational limits that prevent from falling below critical limits) or integrity (i.e. source of metal shavings) This seminar will focus on describing the properties of a Preventive Maintenance Program and how they relate to the maintenance of Food Safety.

Darrel Hogan : Glad to see you Al walker and Darrel Hogan are on here
Newhame Dagne : For how long temporary repair is allowed? 1 hour, 6 hours, 1 day , 1 week, or what?,
Simon Timperley : I would say what is reasonable Newhame.  is it qucik and easy to repair then I would expect hours.  If cost or part required then could be longer, but as quick as reasonably practical.
Simon Timperley : Main thing is it is risk assessed.
Simon Timperley : Most companies (engineers) do not even consider it
Bruce Perkin : Hi Simon, agree with the addition of the point that the temporary repair should not incur any incremental potential risks
Mel Morris : temporary repair is okay, temporary materials are not ;)
Mark  Dargay : Simon, is everyone on MUTE?  There is too much background noise.  Thanks
Issyakha BOMOU : we can consider the weekly cleaning process in food processing factory equipment as a preventive maintenance?
Simon Timperley : Yes I am muted Mark.  It is presenter noise.
Dhruv Kishore Bole : Hello..Everyone out there
Kiriakos Kalpakidis : @Mark Dargay that would be the speakers mic.
chris hogan : does any one use a basic CMMS software with out a subscription?
Iryna Dyachenko : Hrllo, how can the maintenance team can properly set a preventive maintenance frequency when there are no supplier recommendations? For example electronical parts
Susy Sandoval : I don't know why I hear typing noises. is distracting
Simon Timperley : It's usually me, but not today. :-)
David Consulting : iAuditor is a great simple system for running a preventive maintenance program
Liz Lee : is there a program, risk assessment form that can be used for assessment the PM program or work that was completed?
Simon Timperley : Hands up if you are a member of the IFSQN discussion forums.  If not why not? https://www.ifsqn.com/forum/
James Muriuki : what do you do when you cant hear anything and video is flozen
Simon Timperley : Wait for recording James.
Mel Morris : I am a member of the forums
chris hogan : member
James DeLaMare : I'm on the discussion forums
Marlene Peterson  : you could also have potential chemical hazard through a malfunction of your CIP System for example. caustic washes or acid washes could contaminate your product due to for example a valve in the system not closing properly or being defective or@other reasons like your operational software having a glitch!!! Its happened to me... so I thought I should share with the group.
James Muriuki : will i be able to download the certificate
ANNE-MARIE GAJAR : Is there an acceptable PM Schedule example that you can share?
Deepak mathur : Repairs and maintenance budgeting
Dinesh Prashad : Iryna Dyachenko - electrical parts would have to be monitered for a  data set of how long a breakdown occurs then you would have to make a pm  schedule to repair or replace that componant before it breaks down - this is all based on the date you gathered as each company's use varies
Liz Lee : we had similar situation like the one described by Marlene.  how do we enforce or increase the PM before the next occurance
Eric Acierto  : Good day to all
chris hogan : @ ANNE we base our pschedudule off our equpment risk assessment
Issyakha BOMOU : what should I do if we can't see the entier slide ?
Daina Romane : Please, could you provide a risk assessment form that can be used for assessment the PM program? Equipment?
Issyakha BOMOU : not yet

SYED  SAMEEUDDIN : hello
Dhruv Kishore Bole : make it a significant part of maintenance work order program
LILLY LAWS : .
Danny Souphankhaysy : Texis!
Jaskaran singh Saini : hello
Lucy Meagher : What
Lucy Meagher : What's the cost and training plan?
Jaskaran singh Saini : area line clearness system
Amit Kheradia : Do you recommend PM of small tools like brushes and squeegees that are not considered equipment? Or is there different standard or approach for tools?

Hello Simon,

I listened to this webinar, and when I tried to get a copy of the certificate, my web browser refused to let me load it from google drive as a safety precaution. I notified IT and they recommended that you email me a copy of it. I wouldn't mind having it to track it in my training file.

Thanks!

Hi James, the certificates are uploaded to dropbox not google drive. Your IT need to grant you access or perhaps you can access it from home.  It is our policy not to send certificates out individually as unfortunately we do not have the time.  We get many requests every week.

Kind Regards,

Simon

Thanks for getting back to me, I tried to send an email with no reply.

My apologies for mixing google drive and dropbox, they pretty much offer the same services and easy to put in one category. If you are getting many requests per week, maybe it's a customer service issue that you should deal with in order to improve your service? Since you are offering coaching to companies who work in very sensitive networks, perhaps finding an alternative could be beneficial for those of us on high security networks. Hosting the image on a server or and image hosting site like http://imgur.com would be better than dropbox, since accessing dropbox requires higher access permissions, and leaves your computer vulnerable to malicious attacks and viruses. Imgur is a free service, and only takes 10 seconds to upload, and share a link which does not require special permissions. I have already requested access from my IT department, and they told me they would have to grant me access to the dropbox domain as a whole, which will not be at all possible. You're right about possibly accessing the file from home, but since this is a reoccurring issue, perhaps it would be more convenient for your customers to find an alternative?

Hi James, of the 1,000+ registrants for each webinar only a fraction have problems accessing the certificates.  The webinars and certificates are provided free of charge and as such registrants are expected to put in a little effort if needed, such as accessing from home.  That said I’m not precious about dropbox and if Imgur can be accessed by all then I will look into it.  We did originally upload to our own sever, but it would crash with hundreds of people trying to download the certificate at the same time.

Regards,

Simon
