We are thinking of different ideas on how to cool down one of our processing rooms and a cheaper options is to use an air cooling unit to pull air from outside, using appropriate filters of course, to be used inside the processing room.

In our other processing room, we are pulling air that is already in the facility (warehouse to be exact) and again using the appropriate filters.

I wasn't sure if there are additional concerns with pulling air from outside as opposed to from the warehouse.

Thanks!

As a former auditor when I saw fans pulling air from outside the area I'd ask for an air test, what is the filter medium, info on that and filter change out or cleaning schedule for the filters.

The risk is uncontrolled air.................and depending on your neighbours, this could be risky (manure spreading, dust, stinky etc.)  but as long as controls have been implemented and monitored, may be ok

This makes sense. Would having the cleaning/change out of the filter be acceptable if present on a Facility Preventative Maintenance schedule and documented on a form?

I agree and that would be my biggest concern. So maybe doing a risk assessment as well, looking at our current neighbors as well as completing an air test along with documented filter change outs could be sufficient.

Depending on what/how you are "processing" there are lists attached (somewhere) within this Forum of "European" recommended filter size specifications.

Was there a specific FS Standard involved ?

Kind Regards,

Okay I will see if I can find those. We are audited by SQF.

This topic for SQF has already generated substantial discussion here.

It tends to overlap clauses like 11.5.5.

IIRC the expectations, if any, tend to revolve around aspects like filter rating and settle plate counts for APC, Y&M

I suggest you consult the SQF Guidance and maybe this post/thread -
