Good evening everyone,

Does anybody know if  the FDA has established regulatory limits for Ochratoxin and Aflatoxins limit in spices ?

I have searched for days and I found info about the Aflatoxins limits (20 parts per billion (ppb), if anybody can confirm this it would be greatly appreciated.

However, I have not found Ochratoxin limit in spices, I have found legislation for the EU but not for the U.S, which is where I sell the seasoning.

Thanks

Hi Katss....

I have had the same issue & finding the legislation is not easy!!...

The last time I checked US hadn't yet defined limits - although this article suggests working to Canadian limits, which are the lowest.

https://www.ncbi.nlm...les/PMC5292207/

And Codex are/were still working on their second draft

http://www.fao.org/f...%2Fcf12_11e.pdf

So, unless something has changed I think USA limits are still under discussion?

Although limits in spice may (eventually) be higher as spices are not consumed in high quantities (like cereals or dried fruit).
