Hello Experts.

I am working for an importer. We are distributors and re-packers. We do not use water in any of the products.

Water is used for cleaning, washrooms and general use.

Do I need to add a Water Quality Program in HACCP? or I can just attach city water report?

Thanks,

Neha

You need to do a potable water test annually. In the past, auditors have not taken the city water report. They wanted me to send a sample to the lab. Contact any lab and ask them if they do a potable water test. You would add this to your environmental policy, at least that is how I have mine.

Codex Alimentarius:

5.5 Water
5.5.1 In contact with food
Only potable water should be used in food handling and processing, with the following exceptions: for steam production, fire control and other similar purposes not connected with food; and

in certain food processes, e.g. chilling, and in food handling areas, provided this does not constitute a hazard to the safety and suitability of food (e.g. the use of clean seawater).

I should mention we are SQF and a manufacture. We have a warehouse and we apply majority of the programs that apply.

Thanks for quick reply. We have just started with HACCP. And I am the only employee in Quality Department. I want to develop programs in a way that it is not draining for management and yet we prove that our hazard analysis, SOPs and training programs are good for food safety.

Yes the water city report AND water potability test. You can do it annually.

3.5.5.1 Microbiological analysis of water used in manufacturing shall be conducted to verify the cleanliness of the supply, the monitoring activities and the effectiveness of the treatment measures implemented.
