SQF Guidance V8.1 Section 11.2.7 - rodent Glue boards used in processing areas

Hi All,

According to SQF Guidance V8.1 Section 11.2.7, in last sentence of Auditing Guidance it says Poison baits or glue boards are not used in processing area. I can understand poison baits cannot be used but why glue boards?? Can anyone help to explain?? We are currently using glue boards in rodent traps against all our entrances in processing areas. The 3rd party Pest Control Technician never say anything during regular inspection nor all our food safety 3rd party Auditors.

Better take the inhumane chemical glueboards out and replace with tin cats.

As SQF Consultant said, you are adding chemicals into your processing area where they are not needed, especially when there is such an easy replacement with the tin cats (https://www.google.c...chrome&ie=UTF-8)

Using glueboards also kills the mouse, which you have now added slowly rotting dead animal to your processing area. 

Have third party auditors been made aware there is glue strips in the traps?  Or do they see the box and think you are using tin cats? 

Although it has already been said, I would definitely refrain from using glueboards and recommend tincats.

We use tincats around the perimeter of processing areas and at each entrance/exit. We have glueboards on hand, but we have only used them for when we spotted a live rodent in a storage area (pallet storage near rollup doors leading to outside) to temporarily try to capture it. This was a very rare scenario however and for the most part we do not use any chemicals in our processing area.

We do use poison outside though, which our PCO monitors.

I agree with SQFConsutant. Glue boards are horrible and inhuman equiments. They are e.g. in Germany forbidden not only since animal protection has been included in the Basic Law.

Yes, we are also using Tin-cats as rodent trap but putting glue boards inside it. Is it acceptable?

Hi,

from german perspective (!) a clear NO.

You have to have life catch traps incl. daily inspection or you have to kill by toxic substances or immediately e.g. by carbon dioxide. Sticky boards are only "suitable" to let the animals die slowly and inhumanely. Removal a catch.
