Hello fellow QA Managers/Directors:

I am looking to switch to a new chemical vendor/supplier in SoCal/L.A. area.  Any recommendations?  I am specifically looking for a vendor that is good with partnering this facility in developing SSOPs and training employees on the process.  Thanks for the suggestions.

I have found that Spartan does well in these areas.

I would recommend AFCO. I've came across most and work with most but they have always been my preferred for support and pricing. They recently merged with ZEP and nothing against ZEP but I'd prefer a legacy AFCO rep again just because of prior experience.

Good information, thank you as I did not know that Zep merged with AFCO.

Always liked Zep products, but the reps were not always fully up to speed on their own products.

Do like AFCO - so I think this is a good mix.

Thank you.

Ah...chemical reps.  Well in So Cal you have a plethora to choose from...some chemical companies focus in certain types of food manufacturing so make sure the one you choose is very familiar with your food manufacturing and sanitation.  I've worked with...

  • Shepard Brothers
  • Chemco
  • Ecolab

All in all A LOT of it depends on the specific rep you get for your facility.  I know Shepard Brothers and Chemco focus on food beverage including dairy and breweries.  Ecolab does everything and they have a huge amount of resources available.  However, Ecolab can have some hurdles and red tape as with a larger organization and they can be more costly, depending on the level of service you require.  Shepard Brothers and Chemco are family owned outfits and generally have better customer service and response time with things.  They generally are less expensive than Ecolab.

Good luck!
