Would anybody be kind enough to share an example of their allergen risk assessment that enables them to comply with BRC clauses 5.3.1-6?

I've seen numerous different ways of how different sites present the risk assessment and how they assess what their cross contamination procedures should be. E.g. I have seen risk assessments that follow the HACCP process steps and assess the likelihood and severity of cross contamination and then I've seen others list the allergens next to each process step which then require the hazards for those allergens introduction at that step to be assessed. Both examples will then output the necessary control measures to control any risks.

I have a grasp of what is needed but I'm looking for a fairly simplistic approach in how to present it so that it can be easily manageable going forward and can be presented to an auditor with ease.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Danny

Hi senarath,

Thanks for the helpful attachment.

As I understand Sulphur dioxide (generated via heating Sulphur) is applied as a fumigant, etc (presumably = "sulphur treatment".) I assume allergen 01 = sulphite

Have a few queries/comments -

(1) Is this allergen analysis designed for BRC ?

(2) Column 2 is confusing. Perhaps should be titled "hazard" and the specific hazard noted. ?.

(3)  afaik Severity refers to the effect of SO2 if present as a significant hazard, ie if its level exceeds tolerance, Such severity would IMO be H ?.

@ Danny - a little context might help, eg product/process ?? Sadly, an expectation for "simplistic" answers to  BRC requirements is usually wishful thinking.  . Other  presentations are illustrated in these posts/threads -

Can't share mine I'm afraid, but I'd be cautious about overthinking this one. Which of the approaches that you've seen feels most natural to you?

Take the one that makes most sense to how you view things, and go through it methodically. That really is about all that is required.
Just remember that if you go down the HACCP-esque route you'll potentially need to consider a broader "process" than you would for your actual HACCP plan, as activities around the site/warehouse etc that aren't related to the manufacturing process will probably need to be considered - e.g. staff break rooms, offices etc.

A million years ago when I first wrote mine, I started with the stages from the flow diagram and simply added around that to cover all parts of the site and everything else that happens in the facility.
