Let's Talk Floor Scrubbers

We have one and it's been giving us fits. We recently moved into a facility 3 times the size of our last place and our floor scrubber has only been lasting 10 minutes at a time. We have repaired and re-repaired this 2 year old machine but we have decided we need a 2nd scrubber, because even if this one gets fixed it is slated to last only 2.5 hours with a full charge. We need more time to get our floors cleaned. 

Our floors are a slightly textured epoxy in some areas and a polished concrete in others. We make brownies, so there are a lot of chocolate chips, sprinkles, brownies and batter ground into the grey floor. 

Any suggestions for a good strong scrubber?

Our facility is 27,000 sq/ft, but we only floor scrub around 1/3-1/2 of it daily.

We have a 165,000 sf facility and use our floor scrubber about 3 times a week for aisles and open storage areas. It is an Advance Condor EcoFlex. It takes well over 2 1/2 hrs to clean floors and we have never run out of power. This unit sweeps, scrubs and squeegees to nearly dry. You'll need to look at operating voltage and capacity (battery type). You should look for at least a 24V - 36V machine that uses 6V high capacity, deep cycle batteries. Manufacturers have specs on run times for all machines you can look at also. Happy hunting!

Others have good suggestions.  The only addition I will make it opt to lease or rent a unit to see how it works for you and holds up.  Many companies provide this option and some even have a lease to own option.  I suggest this because you may find initially it works and holds up, but over time problems arise or something is not working as it should.  Then you have no commitments and no hefty repair bills.

I don't get involved in the floor scrubbers at our facility, but the persons who operate them don't do a great job in maintaining them (e.g. they run them into things, don't empty and clean the water reservoir, etc).  And, we don't do any maintenance on them so of course they don't last at all.  I think we have been through 5 or 6 since I've been here 2.5 years.  We purchase the Tennant brand.  

I was involved in the selection of the new scrubber for a site. I contacted 3 different manufacturers, based in sq/ft x hrs., cleaning capabilities and others factors we decide to go with a Tennant T500. 

This was a 25K sqft site, the company was great, we got 2 weeks a machine to test it and after we confirmed that worked good, we closed the deal. I believe they are very happy with the machine to do daily cleaning at the end of the shift.

I agree with Ryan, maintenance and a good cleaning is key for all machinery, (many sensors involved on this one) so be sure you have good warranty and service plan to follow strictly.
