MicroFoss Testing Equipment

I'm fortunate enough to have acquired a MicroFoss for testing my micro on.

In the past i've used conventional plates and Petrifilm, both which have worked well.

I'm really excited in that i've got the next generation in technology, but wondered if there was anyone out there that was using the microfoss too, so that we can trade ideas.

Dear Caz,

Sadly not a user but after a quick look at the website, this looks like a very interesting system. However I deduce (couldn't see any obvious site references other than to coliform?) that it has no "official" approvals as to it's accuracy etc as yet ?

Maybe that's why you are seeking cross - comparisons of course ?

(Despite the preference for "Indicative" assessments these days, an analogous, quantitative, automated system for pathogenics like Salmonella, L.mono....not involving a fortune would seeem to offer equal opportunites also but I guess it also relates strongly to the specific industry).

Technology Dear CAZ..

I found the explanation from FOSS... for me thats very clear the Foss system using combine method of Chemical reaction beacause of Micro growth and Spectroscopy technic to find how much Micro growth.. There are Explanton from Foss:

The MicroFoss™ concept is based on traditional microbiology is well understood and accepted, employing microorganism growth in liquid media instead of in solid media.

Microorganisms change when they grow because of the metabolic activity, the pH and red ox potential of the media, which changes the spectral pattern.

MicroFoss uses ready-to-use vials, specific to each analyte. They contain an agar barrier layer separated from the liquid broth. The barrier layer mirrors the colour in the broth without letting sample particles influence the measurement. Light from the Light Emitting Diode (LED), passes through the agar and colour changes due to micro-organism growth are detected. Every 6 minutes a light signal sent the optical changes in the agar by photometrical detection for registration on a computer



The detection time is the time when the difference in optical units exceeds a defined threshold value (at this time the number of micro-organisms is about 100,000 - 1000,000/ml) and is inversely related to the number of organisms in the sample.

Based upon user defined acceptable levels of bacteria, a specified time (cut-off time) correlating with the specified level is set. When the detection time is shorter than the cut-off time, it is indicated that the bacteria level of the sample is above the specified acceptable level and the computer will automatically alert the user, allowing for immediate corrective action to be taken."
