The breakdown of Food News Topic

Dear Simon,

I have some feedback regarding the Food News Topic. I think its very good and so up-dated. But it gives a big pain in my back to browse the news that I need. IMO it would be wonderful if we breakdown the topic into few sub-topics. It can be divided regarding to the time manner (as per month for instance). At least I can figure what time the news is published, and makes easier to find it.

Or, personally I would like to divide the news just like hazard analysis: physical issue, chemical issue, microbial issue, and allergens, or others. If it divided into small sections, I guess the news will be much appreciated by the members rather than scrambled nowhere...

I Hope I give you a positive and useful feedback.

Arya

I value feedback Arya so thank you for taking the time.
If you didn’t know the news forum gets its news topics delivered by an automatic RSS newsfeed and I have no knowledge of what is coming through or in what order it will arrive. It suppose it could be sorted into separate subject areas (anything is possible) but that would have to be manual and would be a huge job as there are thousands of news items in the archive. I’m just wondering if the best way is to use the SEARCH link at the top of the website. When you click on that you have the option to do a simple search of the news forum or you can do a more advanced search. This should bring up your relevant subject matter in date order. Maybe you are using this ready and not getting any satisfaction.

Maybe not the solution you were looking for.

Thanks,
Simon
Dear Simon,

Thank you for the reply. Yeah I've try it... And just like you said, I am still found difficulties.. I agreed, it will needs so many many effort to sort the topics in Food Safety News. So much wasting of time and energy... But can it sorted starts from next year?

The food safety news is pops up about 4-5 times a day, if we sort it every day starts from 1st January, I guess it can be done. And for the old news, I guess we cant do anything to sort it. So let it be that way.

I hope I didnt rush you in.. I know you kind of busy person. I just think that it might me considerable to makes the view of Food Safety News is better.

PS: Does it means that Newsgirl is some kind of program? Or there's people behind it? @.@

Hello Arya,

Yes it would be possible to add additional sub forums to the news forum for specific subject areas and yes it would make sense to do it from the start of a New Year - trouble is I don't have the time for that extra admin right now, so we would need a volunteer to do it.

By the way Newsgirl is a program, I just pretend she is real.

Simon
Dear Arya,

By the way Newsgirl is a program, I just pretend she is real.

In fact, somewhere deep in the archives, you might find my attempt to donate "her" a rather more enticing avatar with example attached, something like Scheherazade from memory (I am a long-time fan of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov). Unfortunately, the admin preferred a more neutroid persona to match the function. Maybe any volunteer sorter would have a more free choice but I fear the overall task presents a considerable (and continuing) challenge.

PS Perhaps a temporary Reindeer for the current season ??
Dear Simon,

Thank you very much for the reply. Humm its quite amusing than I thought. Its absolutely need a free operator to handle it. Okay then, we'll figure a better way on next day. I am just feel the Food Safety News should have a little more exciting discussion. However, thats what news meant to be right? Act as a one-way communication.

To Charles C.,
Yeah I think its a good idea. The Newsgirl should be vary regarding the happening moment :)

Hi Simon,

Regarding catagorising artclicles/news on the forum, would it be possible that users tag articles and than a tag based search function could do the trick.
Is this functionallity available in the forum software?

Right now a use tiddlysnip to cut interesting articles and catagorise them with tags on my local drive in a wiki.

Have a nice day, Okido

Tiddlysnip. TIDDLYSNIP! When it comes to this stuff it’s clear you are much more knowledgeable than I am Okido. An upgrade to the forum software is actually in progress and will be due early January 2009. It’s been underway for about 6 months and is going to be very big. Not just a simple version upgrade. I’ve not seen it specifically but I’m hoping tags will be integrated if not I will try to get an ‘add on’. I agree it would be a useful feature.

BTW here is a link to the IPB blog about version 3.0 of the software: http://forums.invisi...p?showforum=302

Cheers,
Simon
