The History of Packaging

An interesting new article on the website:
The History of Packaging
I believe it's that interesting that it might even be of interest to non-packaging visitors???
The article ends at 1980, and it would be nice and maybe even a bit of fun to try and bring it up to date.
On that note, what have been the important developments in packaging since 1980?

Hi Saferpakers !!
Just came back from holidays.
Beer in pasteurizable PET bottles is one of the most important IMHO.

It reminds us that unpasteurized beer on draught will always be the best beer :D
It's Mr Zammuner! :D
You know what Franco - we've missed you! So much so you've been banned from taking any further holidays.
Thanks for the input; I agree any packaging that improves something as essential to life as BEER has to be considered a major, major development.
Anyway tell us about your holiday and post some pictures in "general off topic chat"
Hic!
:P

To add to the list of useful and important packaging innovations since 1980 how about ring pulls on tins e.g. soup / beans. Great! Unless of course you are now one of the destitute ex-manufacturers of tin openers.
A lesson to us all on the significance of taking a proactive approach to change, creativity, innovation and improvement. We ignore these things at our peril as in the hands of more proactive others they present a continued, often invisible and in the doomsday scenario a deadly risk to our business.
Can anyone think of another invention that wiped the technology of the day off the planet?
