Temprature readings

Hey guys,

I'm just wondering how everyone feels about different types of thermometers. Our forklift operators use dial thermometers and probe temperature readings at reception and expedition. If the reading is "unusual" he contacts his supervisor who will open the case and take a reading with a laser thermometer (I mostly use flukes). When it comes to ambient temperature we use K type thermometers.

How do you guys feel about laser thermometers?
How do you guys feel about the precision of electronic thermometers (for ambient temperatures)?

dear elias..

IMO.. if your temp. control is critical point you should standardize and calibrate any thermometer that you use to monitoring temperature and train your operator who monitoring temp. and dont forget to record it... According to clausul 7.6.4 ISO 22K that state : the monitoring system shall consist of relevant procedures, instruction and record that cover the following :
(b) monitoring devices used; © aplicable calibratio methods (f) record requirements and methods

IMEX.. better you should decide only one type of thermometer (laser, dial or probe) to standarise your methods....
Thanks for responding,

I think I wasn’t very clear, this was not a call for help I was just curious about everyone's feelings towards different types of thermometers. What thermometers you prefer to use etc.

In any case I understand what you are saying, thank you for the response.

Personnally im not too keen on laser thermometers as there are too many outside factors that could affect the readings such as air temperature, gauge of packaging surrounding product etc. also IMO core temperature is what counts, and a laser probe only takes the surface temp.
