ISO 22000 FSMS Manual Structure

Apart from BRC, (not so familiar with IFS) - I find ISO 22000 a really solid food safety program and any one who thinks it is less prescriptive than BRC is very very wrong.

IMO, the Manual should structurally contain: Introduction of the organization; The Management Process; The Planning of Safe Product Realization; Safe Product Realization and finally, The Supporting Process. (we are already moving ahead on this structural basis as agreed with our CB's IRCA Food Registered Auditor for the UKAS pilot cert. scheme)

As an implementor, above 70% of my clients are abandoning their ISO 9001:2000 and HACCP programs for ISO 22000:2005 to lead their businesses and international trades.

What is your company's view?

I´m agree with your opinion about "the solid structure" of ISO 22000

One of the things that likes my clients is that ISO 22000 don´t require a FS Manual as ISO 9001 so all the relevant information for food safety in the industry lay on the PRPs and the HACCP Plan (plus some documents required...)

My clients wants to sale their products and the retailers ask them for BRC/IFS certifications. Some of them are certificated on EUREPGAP Protocol, Traceability and HACCP. ISO 22000 would be the solution, with one only audit, but as I said, they wants to sale. Where is the master key?

Hi Jose,

I hope the key to a harmonized FSMS is through a single global standard i.e. ISO 22000 and I am sure a whole lot of companies out there want it too. However, having read an article recently, it mentioned that most supermarket chain / retail giants are merely following ISO 22K with "interest". The author of the article came to conclude that most retailers are "hiding" behind GFSI who itself aims to harmonize the retail food safety standards.

So unless, a major retail group come out to fully support ISO 22000, we may both have to wait a little longer to see the success of ISO 22000 but I am confident it will............with a little bit of political push and will.

BTW, the ISO 22000 Audit Checklist would expect to see a Food Safety Quality Manual in place.
