Methods or Equipment for Effective Knife Sharpening

Hi
Does anyone have any information on a good bit of kit to sharpen knives effectively. We are using the knives for cutting a variety of vegetables and find that they dull very quickly and domestic electric sharpeners or steels are not hugely effective in getting the edge back. Any thoughts?

Not a bit of kit, per se, but we have a service that visits our kitchens and sharpens our knives on site (out of the back of their van). I'm sure that there would be similar providers in your area.

May be you can use toothed knives, that is more effective and its last long in vegetable cuttings.
Not sure if these are suitable for cutting food. I have made an enquiry and will let you know what the response is.

Toothed knives are unfortunately a no no for two reasons:~
They cause unnecessary damage to the product resulting in increased levels of breakdown within Life
They invariably come back at the end of the day minus several teeth!

Started off life as a butcher/slaughterman many years ago and never found a sharpener that could do as good a job as one of these http://www.sharpense...hewhetstone.asp they need looking after, water change, oiling etc. but with care will last forever
