Examples of brittle plastic
I am working in a plant engaged in manufacture of seasonings and sauce mixes. We are in the process of HACCP implementation. In that regard, I would request you to pls help me in identifying the examples of brittle plastic used normally in a food industry. That will help me in implementing glass and brittle plastic policy in my unit.

I'm not sure if there is an exact definition of brittle plastic but one common possibility IMEX is the front covers of balances. And Clocks. And light protections. And many more probably.

I would suggest the best way of you identifying brittle items in your factory is to go through every room one by one.
Maybe have a little brainstorm before you go out so you have an idea what you could be looking for, such as;
Clocks
Calculators
Buttons such as emergency stop
VDU's
Light shields
Emergency light shields
Telephones
Pens? (should be production safe ones in use 8)
Paper towel holders
Chemical dispenser
Sanitizer dispenser
Blue towel dispenser
Glove and other disposables dispensers
Microwave fronts and panel
Lights, screens, holders for machines - go through each machine and look for hard plastic buttons etc
Sign holders
Perpexs on taps
Hope this helps
be safe
Pry
Stopwatches
Temperature Probes
Plastic strip curtains
Air dial/pressure dials
Also consider somewhere in you policies, staff and visitors who wear spectacles or contact lenses.

Hi All,
Building on this discussion, it looks like some of the plastic items described MAY not necessarily be brittle plastic, but flexible plastic. Do you monitor/audit for all plastics including flexible type ones? Is there a list of plastic types (polymer type or composition) considered to be brittle?
