Hi:

How we read this 35 x 102 or 7 x 103 as a result of staph or coliform colonies count (for example ), I mean what is the meaning of 103 or 102 ?

Thanks

It is ten to the power of X.

The number is superscript basically states the number of zeros that exist after the initial digits.

ie 35 x 102 = 3500 cfu
7 x 103 = 7000 cfu

Hope this helps.

Deborah Dryden • 35 x 102 is 35 x 10^2

i.e. 35 x 100 or 3500

7 x 103 is 7 x 10^3

i.e. 7 x 1000 or 7000

Hope this helps!
