Dear SS2010,
I am not familiar with SQF standards . Do you mean the SQF2000 Food safety plan = HACCP plan?
If so, following the codex seven principles and 12 steps to complete the validation and verification activities.
Best regards,
Jason

Yep, as per Charles C's guide and what Jason HZC wrote
The SQF guide is very handy with the extra info and tips it provides.
And yes, "to document a Food Safety Plan and that these documents be developed, validated, verified and maintained" means implementing a HACCP plan. Why SQF doesn't just say "HACCP" is beyond me.
Do you know how to develop a HACCP plan?

Validation & Verification:
Methods for Validation of Critical Limits
- Validation = Current
- Temperature checks of product, processes or equipment
- Visual checks of personnel, processes, and finished product
Methods for Verification of Legal, Food Safety & Quality Controls
- Verification = Past
- Review of reports, analysis, records, and audits
2 Thanks
Dear SS2010,
No it's not the standard.
SQF are remarkably (even uniquely) user-friendly. This document is 20 pgs longer than the standard.
Not sure about yr thread title "4.4.2.1" though, seems to be section 4.5 in mine. perhaps I hv old edition (6/2008) (not an actual user).(added- checked website - my ed./date still seems current)(standard itself has been amended 2010 but retains 4.5)
Just try searching for "verification" and you will see the difference.

SQF 2000 Clause 4.4.2.1 states Senior Management shall make provision to ensure fundamental food safety practices are adopted and maintained.
Verification and Validation are covered in section 4.5 Verification.

Why not consider the Codex Alimentarius, to validate and HACCP prerequisites?
For reference there is CAC / GL 68-2008 Guidelines for the validation of control measures for food safety.

1 Thank
I agreed with Larrauri50. I explicitly state my definitions in my Validation/Verification matrix. Per Codex Alimentarius CAC/GL 69 - 2008 they have the definition.
AND also are very clear as to those definitions: "Validation focuses on the collection and evaluation of scientific, technical and observational information to determine whether control measures are capable of achieving their specified purpose in terms of hazard control."
This is particularly handy for Prereqs, I have seen validation for some Prereqs defended by "Verification Review Signature" or "Past/Fail Verification Review Signature" and using "Industry Code of Practice" as a reference. This may be an arguable point for some auditors...
However, in some cases, this is the only way I can see validating some PreReqs. For example, FDA Key Sanitation Condition No. 2, even if one uses Bioluminescence Test/APT as a Method, Criteria of Validation would be "Past/Fail Verification Review Signature" and "Industry Code of Practice" as a reference ("observational information" per Codex definition).
