Looking for insight and recommendations on food safety management software... Necessary/Unnecessary? Worth the investment? Software companies that you have had good/not so good experiences with? Are there ones that fit better with certain certifications (i.e. SQF)?

Appreciate your responses!

Hi Stsqf, I notice this is the second topic you raised on this subject, I guess as you didn't get a response to the other one. I deleted the other one and we can try again here to stimulate some discussion on the subject.

Just a few questions for you.

Do you have SQF certification already?
Are you unhappy with your current (paper based?) system?
Is somebody trying to sell you some software?
Simon,

To answer your questions...
Do you have SQF certification already? Yes, just received certificate recently
Are you unhappy with your current (paper based?) system? Undecided
Is somebody trying to sell you some software? No

This is our company's first GFSI Certification and I understand that we need to walk before we can run. With that said, the maintenance of all the programs and schedules IMO would be much easier with the use of software. During the implementation of SQF, we purchased a software for our maintenance department to use which we are now beginning to utilize for sanitation records as well. This made me curious as to how we could possibly utilize it in other ways and I began researching food safety management software to see what was out there and what they were capable of doing for a company.

Our SQF Auditor that we had also eluded to the use of software and eventually going "paperless" which led me to look into this a little more as well - which naturally brought me to this forum to get opinions and directions from others!

I really recommend you take a look at the Qadex system. It is an excellent tool for managing suppliers in what ever way you want to and whatever criteria you want to set i.e. BRC, SQF compliant or your own audit or specific requirements. You can also manage specifications. The web site is www.qadex.com
Hope that this helps.

I've taken a look at both software solutions on the respective websites and from what I can see they look good, but they are not comprehensive solutions covering the entire Food Safety Management System. I think STSQF was seeking recommendations of this sort, correct me of I'm wrong.
Yes Simon you are right on - I appreciate the input from QLD and Paul Ruocco and checked into both of their suggestions but I am looking for something a little bit more that umbrellas all systems. I have found a couple out there through searching but just wondered what others opinions were.

These are the ones I have looked at that may help explain what I'm after:

At this point I am curious if little input means that these software systems are rare and up and coming? Or do they complicate things and are ineffective?

That's kind of what I was thinking.
wich software did you get for your maintenance department ?
We purchased Manager's Plus Enterprise edition and really don't have any complaints about it - they seem to be staying on top of new technologies, etc. and continue to upgrade their software while allowing customers (us) to upgrade without re-purchasing, etc. like other software companies sometimes do.

When we purchased it a couple years ago almost, they did a live webinar with a group of us that demonstrated the capabilities of their systems - we had done this with a couple different companies and Manager's Plus turned out to be the best choice for us in terms of ease of use, cost for quality and capabilities, etc.

Hope that helps!
