Overall, I think it is a lot better than Issue 1 which was such a disaster they had to put out a supplement.

As ever, they have tried to develop a Standard which covers a large range of different operations and inevitably some requirements are over the top in different circumstances.

As an example, for open food, delivery staff are required to have their hair fully contained.(8.2.8). Therefore a fruit & veg delivery driver who carries a tray of apples from his van to a restaurant, possibly walking across a public path, will have to wear a hair net or similar. In real life, this is never going to happen and is probably not necessary.

They have introduced the concept of risk based exclusions which can be used to get round this, but if you work hard enough you can probably put up a justification for most of the Standard's requirements, which defeats the object.

The system for working out audit schedule for group and Hub operations is mind boggling.

Also, the message from the BRC is that the audits need to better follow the actual operation. A lot of S&D businesses do most of their work at night or in the early hours, so expect audits at these times, which may have a cost implication.

Dear Madam A.Dtor,

Out of idle curiosity, are the changes officially referenced anywhere ?

Dear Madam A.D-tor,

Many thks for the attachment. Interesting reading. The writer seems more user-friendly than for the typical BRC-inspired text.

This chunk is perhaps a useful indicator of one (BRC's ?) perspective -

"The role of effective pre-requisite programs such as pest control, cleaning, training etc continues to be emphasised recognising that often few if any true critical control points may exist in Storage and Distribution operations."
