Need an Internal GMP Audit Checklist for a Packaging Manufacturer

I am a quality manager for a manufacturer of labels/packaging for indirect food contact. One of the expectations is that we do monthly internal GMP audits. Since I'm new in this position, I'd like to know if anyone knows if there is a checklist available for GMP's for a manufacturer of labels/packaging for indirect food contact. I know some of the things that need to be on it are no glass/brittle plastics, no food/drink in the shop, but am curious what needs to be on the checklist, and how detailed it needs to be.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

HI BadgerDave and welcome.

Your GMP checklist reflects your food safety program.

For instance, if you have a policy for storage and the rules state all shelves and products must be elevated from the floor, then this is one element that is placed on your checklist.

Your checklist should be no longer than two pages. Short and sweet, to the point with checks on all areas that are visual and part of your good manufacturing practices.

Your Internal Audit (either bi-annual or annual) is the pages-galore checklist.

Thanks for the input. What I have developed is one page. I'm glad to hear that it doesn't have to be lengthy. I was told by an auditor that we need to walk the process, and based on our knowledge of physical/biological/chemical contamination possibilities, we should develop what we feel are appropriate GMP's. I was wondering if there was either a government body or food packaging supplier organization that had a ready made checklist for companies like ours.

I appreciate the reply, I have a place to start, and it appears that I'm on the right track.

Thanks again.

BadgerDave,

I’m with your auditor on the walking the process. The elements in your GMP check list would be personalised for your business and its concerns on all contaminations.

Can’t help you on a checklist for your industry but check out the sample attached for inspiration in developing your own. It focuses on known potential risks for its industry and also targets historical issues of this particular business.

I totally agree with the comments posted by JAKMQA. As you are supplying the labels and packaging for indirect food contact the GMP Audit Checklist for your operation should be short and sweet compared to if you were supplying a product which was going to be in direct contavct with food.

I hope this helps.

Thank you. I had some of these items on my checklist, and can look at adapting this to our company.
