Hi, with the advent of Issue 4 of the Standard for Packing & Packaging Materials, does anyone have a ready made policy that meets clause 1 and examples of product safety objectives please?

Many thanks in advance

Can you post the requirements in a little more detail Rosemary?

Thanks,
Simon
The standard requires 'senior management shall ensure that product safety and quality objectives are measurable, established, documented, monitored and reviewed.' I'm racking my brains as to how to set some of these for plastic packaging.

Can anyone in the same industry help please?
Same type of product (plastic closure), same problems. Will work on it soon.
We had a pre-audit last week.
Quality and product safety objectives during the managment review are fewer complaints and fewer non-conforming products (internal).
Write your senior managment's goal on this in the action plan of your senior managment review and at the next one verify that those things have been made.
Thanks for that. Have you been advised to set targets i.e. no. of complaints or number of complaints per type of product? I was thinking in terms of the measurement aspect. We had 5 customer complaints last year but produce millions of plastic trays per year. I'm thinking of either 'maintaining a single digit level of complaints' objective or calculating complaints of a percentage of the product made.
Try to set objectives because they help you improve rather than because a Standard says that you have to.

Complaints, Non Conforming Products and NOTIF are probably the most common objectives that are presented but they focus on negatives and in many ways they are in themselves out of your control.

Twist it around and identify the positive parts of your Quality System and operation which you can improve and which will hopefully help you to reduce your complaints and NCP etc.

Look at areas such as training, internal audits, supplier management, process control, cleaning and specification control etc.

eg

80% of production operators will receive refresher training by week 45
95% of internal audits will be carried out within two weeks of the scheduled date
60% of suppliers will be reaudited by week 50
95% of cleaning tasks will be completed according to the schedule.
90% of raw material specifications will be reviewed by week 48

Objectives such as these are measurable and will contribute to meaningful continuous improvements.

I'm not familiar with BRC Global Standard - Food Packaging but I suppose one could argue that a 'safe' product is one of those customer requires not stated but implied. Perhaps an objective something like "to ensure 100% compliant with statutory and legal requirements" is exactly 'ensure' the product is safe.
