It depends what for. Can you audit internally with your experience? Probably but best practice to get some training (formal or informal). Can you audit other companies? I would say, probably not. Apart from the lack of formal training, the industry you've been in isn't high risk which may mean you'd miss things other people might raise. You could easily get some training though but ideally you need experience in the area you intend to audit - if you're just auditing other low risk ambient sites, it's probably not an issue though.
I totally agree with the comments made by GMO. Everybody needs to undertake formal training and gain sufficient experiience by conducting audits as part of a HACCP team and also gaining experience of having conducted Internal Audits and this will help you in achieving your goal.

It seems that you want to be an external, third party or independent Food Safety Auditor. To be qualified for this position, you have to attached with a certified and experienced Food Safety Lead Auditor. In the beginning you probably have to work as an observer or assistant. As you get experience and improve your expertise, you could be allowed to do audit as an independent Auditor.

MMM i don't know.
I'm not certified as a Food Safety Lead Auditor, but i do have ISO 9002 internal & Lead Auditor I also have Advanced Food Hygiene and Advanced HACCP & Farm to Fork. I also have a degree in Food Science & Technology.

I spent 2 years as a group food safety aditor and do supplier audits / food safety audits for my current employer.

So, Am I qualified????
In Australia we have to provide proof that one has undertaken a certified course for Food Safety Lead Auditor Training course and also conducted 20 audits with another auditor. Internal audits that one has conducted also counts. The certifying body to approve whether you are qualified as an auditor or not is a body called RABQSA. We have to renew our licence every three years by providing professional development and providing audit logs as well. It is a painful process but it can be very rewarding.
