Dear all:

A lot of international food safety standards require the pre-employment medical screening of workers. Can you all share with me the type of screening test to be done/required from your countries e.g. stool test, x-ray (chest, etc...), blood test etc.?

Thank you.

Yong

Dear Yong,

Out of curiosity, any particular reason ? (I noted yr recent post in parallel thread, new detailed requirements perhaps ?)

I predict in many "developed" countries, this is a sensitive legislative issue ("personal rights".) (I think parts of yr query hv come up on the forum before somewhere). Not to mention costs involved.
And maybe undeveloped also.
And probably cultural.
The issue may also significantly change post-employment.

Dear Charles.C:

As you are aware, Malaysia has come out a new Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 which require pre-employment medical screening of workers. Currently, we only have simple screening test x-ray on chest and urine test. Some companies may test more parameters over others. So, I just want to compare what our forum members do for this issue.

I would also request views on this.
Currently we are doing chest x-ray, blood test and stool test.
Thanks

I would recommend mainly conducting stool test for salmonella and nasal swab test for staphylococcus. These are the two tests we are actually doing.

Dear Purepurple,

Really, at yr own cost ? For pre-employment ? I think this is rather unusual, particularly the 1st one, but maybe it depends on what the factory is producing.
