Are You A Procrastinator?

Procrastination is a strange phenomenon. It often seems to be a good solution for making life more enjoyable (by delaying unpleasant responsibilities). But procrastination almost invariably works to make things ultimately more difficult and stressful. And it is a rare individual that escapes the dark hand of procrastination. Many people struggle for years to free themselves from its chains in order to forge ahead towards academic success, fulfilling relationships, a clean house, or a muscular body.

How about you?

I'm surprised you could be motivated enough to post so quickly.
This is quite apt

I was thinking last week about why I keep putting things off ?

I scored 40 in the test so maybe I'm not alone in my incedcision , however I DO seem to be turning it into an art form

I think that we like to procrastinate, it gives us something to worry about , and we LIKE to worry

Why do we like to worry ?

Right, I'm off to buy a Self Help Book, or shall I do it Tomorrow ????/

The problem is Rob these days there are just too many things to worry about. I mean I've only just started to get over Mad Cows Disease and now I've got bird flu.

Oh no not eggain.
Dear Simon,

Its a good test for an introspection of one's self. Such 'doses' are required once in a while in the fast life. Arnold Toynbee said 'Procrastination is the thief of time'.

Thanks for the 'test' ( my score was 28).

Oh this is an old one; I cannot remember my score. In fact I may not have taken it at all. I clicked the link and read 40 questions and 25 minutes and decided to leave it til later. I believe I said the same when I first posted the test over a year ago.

You know Caz it's been that long I've completly forgotten what it is we're supposed to be procrastinating about. If you put it off long enough...
I scored 42!

My acute procrastination started about the same time as discovering the internet. I have a combination of procrastination and IDD....Internet Defecit Disorder!

I know what you mean. Like no other pursuit the internet has the ability to eat time ravenously. I often set out to do something (usually work) and three hours later I've achieved precisely zilch.
Hi

My score was 28. I feel the need to improve on it.

I usually fix my target deadlines well in advance and ensure my work is finished before the deadline more often, occasionally after deadlines when I have unexpected issues popping up like any health issues.... but I ensure all the tasks are prioritized and plan and organize in advance.

You sound alright to me Jean. Some fine tuning required but nothing too drastic. Perfection is difficult for us humans to master.

OH, how I wish I could plan and do things well ahead of time. Is it a sign of our times that make us put off thungs until the last minute and then look back and think if I did this earlier it would not have been great but spectacular. I have so many friends and peers with the same affliction!

I like to think that the people who do everything well in advance don't have as much fun as us procrastinators. Isn’t it exciting leaving things until the very last millisecond?

When I was at Uni I was one of those who could go out and enjoy a few beers the night before a big assignment was due in rather than starting the assignment that night or having it finished three weeks early. The problem is most of my buddies were procrastinators and I had to help them on the last minute so they could come out for a pint.

17 points.

I can't stand timewasters.

I can see why some of you thought I was a bloke

Seriously - just get the stuff you hate done first, the rest will follow then you look like the most organised person in the world.

It's horrible being on the end of procrastination, especially if it's something important, like a job. I once had 4 interviews for one job when I knew after stage 2 I was the only applicant. Every interview started late as well, drove me mad. Should have turned it down on gut feel because the place drove me nuts!

It's a really difficult skill to master, but I agree with you it's the most productive. Most people like to clear all the bits and bobs and trivial nothings from their in-tray before attacking that difficult project. Trouble is tomorrow always brings another bagfull of trifle and the big job never get's done. Not me though.
