dear all,
my company going to have spraying production code on our packaging (PP material) by inkjet printer and our product is ice which ready to eat food; my concern is there a possibility ink will permeable into my product? supplier claimed that the ink will dry within few second, is this to be acceptable? is they a need to use food grade ink or anyone of u come across this issues and don't mind to share with me??

You have to assess the risk of substances migrating from the ink through your packaging and into the food.
Is the PP material a barrier to any possible transfer?
The fact that the ink will dry within a few seconds is irelevant as substances can transfer to the food even when the ink is dry.
A risk assessment needs to be done that covers the type of food, packaging material, ink type and amount applied.
Hope this helps!

EU and US regulations at present are similar in thiscontext: The ink on the outside of the container must not migrate through thematerial and enter the product. The European Printing Ink Association (EuPIA) hasa reasonably straight forward decision tree tool that your ink supplier can useto assess the likelihood of migration and identify any need to reformulate. Withyour frozen product, migration risk is minimal, but you are wise to address thepossibility.
