Raw Material Specifications vs. Registers
You can do something like this as the raw material specification register. Example:-
No. Item (Ref no. of the Spec) Revision Effective Date Reason for Changes
a) Tapioca (XYZ-S123) C 01.03.2012 Revised std for TPC
Continue for the rest of the raw materials you have. You can add other info as you like.

I don’t use SQF and haven’t checked their guideline model so I am only speculating.
IMO, a Register is typically a list (of some sort). The minimum information contained may or may not be specified. If not, it’s presumably up to you and the objective. This specific case sounds analogous to a narrow version of the “Master Document List” made famous by ISO 9000.
Example, you presumably have a specification for all your raw materials for each supplier / location / whatever, eg salt, vinegar, pepper will minimally hv 3 documents. All these specs should have unique identifications, eg 1000,1001,1002.
So, minimally, the (Specification) Register could be
1000 Salt
1001 Vinegar
1002 Pepper
Of course, this format, just like ISO Document Lists, is amenable to unlimited expansions such as previous posts describe. The choice depends on a variety of factors, eg how many specs, how much time you have and, perhaps most importantly, who is going to do the (hand)work
Another 5 cents.

I was really hoping someone could help me with a question i have. I am trying to find out the difference between Raw material specs (SQF 4.3.2.1) and a Raw material specification register (SQF 4.3.2.2). I have looked online to find a good example of what SQF is looking for in a "Register". I am not looking to copy someone elses work or an easy way out, I am just frustrated in the vague way it is discribed in the SQF Hand Book. The wording says "A register of raw material specifications shall be maintained". Ok, I have specs, do I list everything that comes in and how it matchs these specs. I would appreciate any help that any member can provide!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you to everyone for your help. This process has become very frustrating at times and it's nice to know there is somewhere to turn were people understand your frustration.
Thank you!!!
Two columns - name of company, address, contact info on the left side and what they supply on the right side - keep repeating straight down, there's your register.
Hello, just a question regarding your answer. Our approved supplier program includes a questionnaire that asks the supplier to list name, address, and what they supply in addition to any applicable coa's, logs, third party audits etc. Having this already will I still need to make a separate registry to satisfy the requirements in SQF code 8.0 section 2.3.2.6? If so will your suggestion still apply because I liked that it was simple (so much of this isn't lol).
Thank you:)
