Recomendation/advice on CB
I am totally agree, with some of you, about choossing a food experienced auditor to get a Certification. So I would like to ask you which CB would you choose to get the Certification for a food company or which ones have good trained food auditors on staff ?
All answers on this issue will be welcome: experience, stories, reputation, etc
Regards
Esther
IMO and without prejudice, the name and size of the CB is not important BUT the quality of the auditor (which will determine the quality of your audit report) is. If you look deep into ISO 22000, it does not tell you a lot (unlike BRC which is specific in prescription) but rather ISO 22000 leaves you to decide what is appropriate and suitable in implementing your own FSMS System that is specific to your intended level of food safety and that means the correct understanding and interpretation of the standard by the food auditor is extremely vital.
I would be very happy if you can get hold of an IRCA Certificated Food Auditor instead of a converted FSMS Food Auditor who may not necessary have the technical background in food unless the person was previously a BRC or ISF etc auditor before.
As an auditee, you have a right to ask for the auditor's CV which would determine whether the proposed auditor is suitable for your organization (both in terms of industry covered and years of audit experience).
Remember, they are companies who seek to assess the quality of the FSM System by asking for your audit report instead of your certificate......I would
Hope this helps.

Agreed! Audit reports from BRC audits in particular are comprehensive and tell you everything you need to know. With regard to Esther's question which Certification Bodies are in the game for ISO 22000 - does anyone have a list?

Hello Simon
AS we do not get any answer, let us put it in another way.
which ones of these CBs do you feel more confident with regarding food safety issues? Can anyone give us some opinion or their reputation in your country ?
a) Bureau Veritas
b) SGS
c) Applus +
Thank you in advance for all your opinions
Esther
The silence is deafening isn't it. From my point of view I have not heard of Applus+ and neither SGS nor Bureau Veritas have a long history or prominence in food safety management systems certification. That's not to say they aren't any good. As ISO 9000 wanes naturally some of the cert bodies who are historically well known for ISO 9000 are now trying to establish themselves in the flourishing food safety arena. It's not easy for them though as there are many pure food safety certification bodies who have high reputations with the food industry and retailers especially in the UK
Anyone else?
Regards,
Simon
The silence has now been broken........but remains rather uncommitted.
Promise, I would give you a recommendation if you contact me by email. Frankly, I would not volunteer these sort of information on a public forum but would be glad to "talk" with you more on your certification needs.

IMO, I see no reason to advertise for CB on an open forum and its not ethical anyway.
