Food Regulations References

HI. This is my first time in this forum. I would like to ask for specific references (EU) for the following regulations:
1. GMO or non-GMO restrictions
2. Limit for sharp and foreign body contaminants in food (aside from FDA reference) - I understand our client may have different requirement but I would like regulatory requirement to refer to in case we might not be able to meet client's specification.
3. residual solvents in food packaging (not migration limit since our supplier's report indicates residual solvent)
This is in relation to our NC's during our last BRC audit.
Thanks.

Dear mgtnavarro,

As i understand, but i am willing to be corrected, in the EC "system", some of their limits are EC-wide implemented, some are not (ie may be over-ruled by national laws). The decision AFAIK is determined by the specific "category status" of the document containing the limits.

Their limits are all archived/accessible within the "Europa" website and elsewhere.

(1.,3. no idea, general or otherwise).Sorry.

AFAIK, no EC-wide limit for 2. exists. Based on some of the forum threads, a few countries within EC have published limits. (even in USA, you need to carefully read the FDA legal interpretation(s) to draw any specific conclusions).

Hi, for the GMO you can see:

1) REGULATION (EC) No 1829/2003 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCILof 22 September 2003on genetically modified food and feed

2) REGULATION (EC) No 1830/2003 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 22 September 2003 concerning the traceability and labelling of genetically modified organisms and the traceability of food and feed products produced from genetically modified organisms and amending Directive 2001/18/EC

3) COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION of 4 October 2004 on technical guidance for sampling and detection of genetically modified organisms and material produced from genetically modified organisms as or in products in the context of Regulation (EC) No 1830/2003

Regarding the size of foreign bodies :
- the Dutch authorities use the 7mm to 25mm rule.
- But if the food is to be used by children or elderly people the max size is 2 mm.

So in general we use the 2mm rule.
