Your best bet is to visit http://www.brcglobal.../Standards.aspx
The main benefit is BRC being a global standards is accepted world wide. You may be able to promote your business after achieving this certification since companies all over the world do recognize these standards with respect.

The BRC Enrolment Program basically replaces a preaudit that many companies would do before their initial audit. An entire BRC audit is conducted, if the company achieves the level of certification (Grade A, B, or C) they receive a certificate. If they receive below that they enter the enrolment program and receive a score card with grades for each section. The company information is uploaded to the BRC directory but they do not receive a certificate.

Hello

This is my first post on ifsqn and similar to QCALE I am new to the BRC process.

I discussed the Enrolment program with our plausible Certification body and got a similar answer as the one from Gail.
Thus i hoped for some extra support given to new companies entering the process but it seems this is yet to be completed: "Access to a range of tips and tools to help in development of food safety systems – currently being developed" http://www.brcglobal.../Enrolment.aspx

So how useful is it to enter the Enrolment program? You could instead choose to do a identical audit going the "old way" but without the Enrolment program possible grading system if you fail. Wouldn't you signal that you can't meet the requirements by entering the EP?

QCALE - did you go through with the Enrolment program and what is your experience from these options?

Best regards

From what I understand you don't choose, you have an audit and if you pass you get a certificate and if you don't you get a scorecard and enter the enrollment plan. The scorecard helps you focus on the areas where you need to improve to pass another audit and the company is listed in the database so clients can see that you have entered the certification process.

Good luck,
Gail

The pointers to head to the BRC website, where you can find a paper outlining the Enrollment program.

Absolutely correct in that it can replace the pre-assessment, which was largely an unregulated pre-certification evaluation.

One difference... a site can request their CB come in for a BRC Enrollment right from the start. Once the Enrollment audit is completed, the site is expected to provide a correction action plan (as opposed to corrective actions) within the allotted 28 day period. If at the end of the Enrollment audit, the number of NC's is within the certification grade allowance, and if the site fully closes those NC's within the 28 day period, the audit can be switched by the CB to a full certification audit.

So, with a pre-assessment, you end with a pre-assessment report.

With an Enrollment audit, you can end either with an Enrollment report, or a full certification.

With a certification audit, you can end with full certification, or failing that, move to the Enrollment program.

For sites that are unsure as to whether they are ready for certification, but need to interim measure, the Enrollment program is a low pressure first run.

Anyone having trouble finding the Enrollment program paper on the website, send me an e-mail and I will send it directly to you.

From my understanding, most certification bodies will automatically enrol you in the enrolment programme.  you go through your first BRC audit - if you achieve a A, B or C grade you can take the certification.  if you fail (too many minors / majors or critical non conformances) then it changes to a pre-brc audit.  you have a year or 6 months  (cant remember which one) to correct your non-conformances and then go through the audit again but during that time you are registered with BRC which shows your intent and commitment to achieving BRC.  Some may say If your on a C grade you may as well opt for the enrolment.  Good for companies with customers asking them to get BRC as it shows you are working towards it.
